This is me with my very first peony! I can tell that it is a red one :-)
My sisters standing in the middle of our peony bed in Indianapolis. We had wonderful peonies in the 3 most common colors......white, pink, and red. We also had a pink with a white center but I don't have any of those! The following 3 pictures are of my peonies.Today I went with my sister-in-law to the historic town of New Harmony, IN which is not very far from where I live. We went to look at the old buildings and the labyrinth and cemetery and look for birds, but we discovered that they have lovely gardens at many of the houses and saw varieties of peonies that I've never seen before!
This was a beautiful pinkish white.......very delicate color.
All of the peonies were gorgeous and all of theirs seemed to have stronger stems than mine. My peony love may turn into peony lust and I may have to buy some of these wonderful varieties! I certainly see why someone pushed to make these the State Flower, even though it is not native to Indiana!
I'm going to add a "plug" for a fellow blogger today. If you have never visited South African Photographs she has some gorgeous photos! Today she has some lily pictures that are so lovely. Check out her blog.....it's great!

Oh my gosh! I'm glad I don't have to choose! They are all so beautiful...reminds me that I have to move mine - ugh - hard job.
Birdlady: I need to split mine and always chicken out and leave them be for another year. I think I am getting fewer flowers because they are old and crowded.
You've captured the peonies well, I can almost smell them.
Very beautiful! On my way out to my garden to mow lawns and dig a few weeds out; your beautiful pictures reminds me of how lovely everything will be in my garden when my flowers start to bloom.
Me and My Camera: my garden would probably appreciate it if I would dig a few weeds out :-)
I NEED to get some peonies! They are such beauties.
What sweet memories in your older photos! Great post and love the peonies.

Cicero: Aren't they wonderful? I just love all the varieties that I had never seen before.
JB: Thanks....I couldn't resist posting the old photos. I have a lot of memories connected to the peonies of my youth and playing around them with our kittens. Probably why I planted the same 3 varieties at my house.
That salmon one is incredible! Another favorite flower of my - reminds me of my grandmother and Memorial Day. Every year we would pick peony's to put on granddad's grave.
just lovele pictures!
Annie: I thought the salmon was pretty, too! It's very common around here to take peonies to graves because of when they bloom.
My goodness Mary, I am greatly honored that you mention my blog!! A million thanks!! :) These peonies are gorgeous and it is so difficult to say which is the prettiest. The pinkish white, salmon and pink with yellow are amazing!!
I never knew they were so gorgeous. i especially like the pinkish white one. I can see why you love them.
Saphographs: Glad to mention your great blog. I loved the lily pictures you posted!
Sketched Out: I never knew there was such a variety until I saw the ones in New Harmony. Usually you just see the red, pink, and white that I have at most places that sell them locally. I like that pinkish white one, too.....so delicate in color.
Great seeing your younger day pics and beautiful peonies! I checked out the link real quick and I'm going to put it on my bird blog so I can remember to go back, looks like a good one.
