Fabric's turn....quilting updates

I finally finished my "leafy" quilt! I got it back from Linda, who machine quilted it for me with lots of leaves and flowery motifs....beautiful! I would never get a quilt finished if it was not for Linda! I like making the tops, but do not enjoy hand quilting and am not good at machine quilting. I decided since it is "outdoorsy" looking that I would take a picture of it outside with some leaves. We had just cut down some oak branches so they were a perfect backdrop!

I wanted to show Linda's quilting! She did leaves in all the green areas......

and wreaths in the corners (this is before I bound the edges)

Then there was the applique class that I took on my birthday. This is the teacher holding up her demonstration piece that we would start in the class. She was a very good teacher....Mary Sorenson. I think that I learned a lot and was not too disappointed with how my own attempt is turning out......

This one is mine, but I still need to add the embroidered stems and antenna, add borders and quilt it! Not perfect, but I'm getting the idea!


My future project (If I declare it here than I will have to work on it!) I really want to quilt birds! I have bought books for both paper-piecing and appliqueing birds......and only tried one paper-pieced cardinal so far. This book is called, "Go Wild with Quilts...Again!" and is by Margaret Rolfe. I want to try this paper-pieced Loon pattern! Ever since I saw pictures of loons posted by several of you, I have wanted to try one on a quilt! I have some perfect loon-like fabrics!

I will not try this whole quilted piece, but just one Loon block and maybe make it into a pillow sham or a bag. We'll see! Now that I have publicly said that I'm doing it, I will have to follow through! (if you click on it, you can make it larger and see the fabrics that she chose...that's the fun part :-)
