Sandpiper and Bruce: Yes, I do wish people did things like this now. Mom probably got tired of running to the front door to find our flowers, but she never said so. I just may have to take these and hang them on someone else's door today in memory.

Mary, I remember the May Day baskets. Filled with violets, as I remember, little paper cones taped together with a paper handle. Thanks for reminding me. And, happy birthday.

What memories!!! We used to do just that every May 1st when I was growing up. It made those we gave them to feel just special. (and it was my mom's idea, btw.)
Tsannie: Oh good! Someone else used to do this,too! Sometimes it was a struggle to find something that was blooming at the right time to put in the basket, but we always found a few violets and a stray tulip if nothing else.
I love your blog, and we plan to move to Indy when I retire at the end of next year. I miss you too, and I can't wait. I plan to spend most of my time at quilt shows with you.

How unusual. Have never heard of that tradition here in England. The purple flower looks a bit like our Lilac.
How lovely! I wonder if that is Lilacs I smell. This is such a thoughtful way to usher in May.

Roy and Me and My Camera: I probably learned the tradition in grade school:-) Yes, those are lilacs along with some Spirea and violets. I really don't have anything blooming except bushes and trees at the moment.
Great photos, we have a few more weeks to go before everything is as green as that in our area.
