I can only take so many pictures of wet birds and flowers! Soooooooo.....hop on a plane with me and we will go on a visual vacation to look at art instead......at the Tacoma Glass Museum. If you ever go to the Seattle area, by all means go to Tacoma and see this wonderful place. If you aren't familiar with Dale Chihuly and his wonderful glass, he has a beautiful web site full of pictures and there are some wonderful books of his works available. My favorite place is the pedestrian bridge crossing the highway that is lined with tall glass cases full of his vases! There are also the two tall blue "candy sticks" that just glow in the sunlight and are wonderful to take pictures of. Be sure to click on the pictures and bring them up full size to really be wowed!
Keep in mind that you are on an outdoor walkway over a highway looking at these! It was a semi-cloudy day and I had to tweak the lighting a bit to try to bring out the color of these. I've been there in sunlight, also and it is amazing! However, the cases are very tall and hard to photograph the vases up close.
This one is my favorite, for some reason, and the color here is not really true....it is more golden and brownish.
His imagination is amazing in everything he does.
These cases are over-head and you walk under them just open-mouthed at all the color and shapes and textures. When the sun shines through all this color.....wow!

This is so amazing! And so unbelievable; there seems to be such a tremendous amount of it. Its hard to visualize. It must be a wonderful, visual walk! Wet birds we can see often, but this, never :-)
Sandy:Be sure to check out his web site. He's most well known for his huge chandeliers and outdoor installations in foreign countries. Never seen any of those for real. I would guess that some of the overhead glass is by his students. He has an eye injury and uses help.
Me and My Camera: Chihuly is really an unbelievable artist and you are right...there is so much you just sort of stand there and gape at it and snap hundreds of pictures. It just looks like it is "carelessly tossed" into these cases, when most of us would love to have just one piece of it!!
Very interesting museum. My mom says she saw some glass sculpture like this up at the ceiling of a casino in Vegas, but she can't remember which one now....maybe the Venetian.

JB: Chihuly has done Vegas....Bellagio....just looked it up on the net. That's probably what she saw.

These are amazing and sooooooo beautiful! Nice to see something other than nature, too. It's raining here and my car is in the shop, so I won't be getting out today. It's great to see something colorful.
Sandpiper: Well, you can certainly brighten your day looking at Chihuly's stuff! There's a lot more variety on the web site....his chandeliers and ouside stuff just blow me away.
He's one of my favorite artists. I saw his show in St. Louis several years ago. All was beautiful, but that glass ceiling (which you've photographed beautifully) simply took my breath away! This must have been before I started stopping by every day...can't believe I could have missed it!
