Yesterday's rain seemed to bring out all the birds.......wet and dripping at times, but hungry!
I was pleased to see the Indigo Bunting a couple of times in both the drive and the garden.
All the birds are beginning to discover this new feeder and give their approval. Maybe I should have put a bigger tray on it!
Mr. Cardinal looked pretty miserable......dripping water from his tail and waiting for a place to feed.
Mrs. Rose-breasted Grosbeak showed up! Didn't recognize her at first, but I was pleased to see her. My husband saw the male also, but I missed it. They've been shy so far this year.
She was wet and dripping after the rain, too!
Do you think the Red-wing blackbird is telling this fake bird to get out of the feeder??

She found the "frog fountain" and had a drink, so I hope I see her there again! My husband made this fountain for me from a fiberglass ball with frogs on it that we found at Lowe's a couple years back. I just love it and so do the birds! We just repainted it.....last year it had a bad problem with slimy stuff growing on it.
Another visitor to this popular feeder! My husband made this, too from a little trellis and a plastic dish with holes drilled in it. I have such a handy husband who can take my ideas and make them work!

Rain always turns this tree into a mess but it won't last much longer.

hmmmm.... I think I got here the first of today rather than the last of yesterday! Maybe I am finally catching up :-). Seriously I have often wondered if the birds would gather under a canopy or an umbrella sort of structure. They do get wet sometimes don't they. Your yard sounds like it is so full of bird life and blossoms. It must be wonderful there this time of year.
Me and My Camera: I was confused by your comment at first and then realized I wrote the post last night and it said "today" where it should have said "yesterday"...I corrected that :-) Haven't had my morning tea yet....not awake. I guess the birds see the leaves of the trees as all the canopy they need. They don't seem to mind getting wet...saves taking a bath :-) My bird activity has been up and down lately....partly due to my dead tree which makes them nervous, but yesterday was a good bird day.
Think you could post direction for making that fountain? I want to add some sort of water feature (tho we live by a pond, I've never seen the birds drink from it, tho I'm sure they must)with the bird feeders. Do you feed the birds year round? I'm going to unless someone gives me a good reason not to.

Wow, you get such a variety of birds to your feeders ... and such close up shots!
Annie: I'll ask my husband about directions. Maybe we can take some pictures. Basically he drilled a hole through it, inserted a piece of pipe which he could put a fancy nut on the top, and then you just connect tubing and a pump underneath which lay in a basin. You can buy all sorts of pump kits to make fountains. It sits in a fairly shallow basin so I have to add water to it as the level goes down. The frog ball had a square base and I have it in a round planter basin, so I usually lay decorative rock over the base to hide it. It sat very low in the garden in past years, so this year I set it on top of another pot to raise it up some. There are plenty of ready made fountains, too.....I just liked that froggie ball a lot and wanted it :-) I feed my birds year round. I see no reason to not help them out at all times. I don't know what seasons they can find plentiful natural food, plus I want them to come to my house.
Cicero: I do get a nice variety most of the time, and only get close-up shots if they come to that tree and feeders right by the front door. My door has sidelights and I just stand there with the camera and shoot! That is why I am sick about my dead dogwood that the feeders hang in...the birds are nervous right now with the bare tree. I have started a vine growing up it. Hope that works for a short term solution at least :-)

sandy: Hi! I enjoy your blog very much, too and just realized that I never added it to my sidebar! Hopey loves this weather and likes to sit on the front step...which the birds do not appreciate. All my kitties are "she's". My daughter named her after some character in a comic book.
Mike: Thanks! I only wish I had the drive to learn more about my camera instead of relying on "point and shoot". Maybe some day.
Sandpiper: I can't imagine wanting a better yard then yours with your tree full of baby squirrels and a raging brook outside your window! My yard is actually pretty much just grass and a lot of flowering bushes and 5-6 trees. It's the feeders that lure the birds :-)

That Indigo Bunting is one heck of a colour! Are both male and female like that?
Kingsdowner: No, the female is a very plain brown. I haven't seen her yet this year but will post a picture, if I see her. I hope I have at least one pair and they stay all summer. The male is really bright and last year was the first time that they came to my house. I'm hoping from now on they will come every year!
