.....and apparently so am I. I just don't even feel like getting outside and taking pictures in this hot dry weather. We really need rain. Everything looks so dead and dreary right now.
The vine growing on my dead tree has these pods and this pair of bugs really seem to like them.....but weren't very cooperative for a close-up. I seem to have lost whatever setting was working for close-ups on my camera and can't get it back.
The goldfinches decided that if I'm not going to give them Sunflowers, that Black-eyed Susans were the next best thing. This one spent quite a bit of time picking at these flowers yesterday.
I couldn't tell if he was eating the petals or the seeds, but the flowers are certainly looking scruffy where he is sitting!
He was enjoying them....that's for sure!
Focus problems again....can't seem to make the camera understand what it is that I want it to focus on. Half of this is focused, half of it isn't. (sigh)
Tiny moth. I stirred up a lot of these when I mowed the lawn.

I'm tired of all the House Sparrows anyway and they are grown up enough to go find something else. The Cardinals will come to other feeders that I have.

Hi Mary. It seems like we are having too much rain in certain part and none in others. Sadly, we need some soon too otherwise the animals are going to be having a hard time. DOes your camera have a macro setting. I wish I could help you set it up again!! :) That Goldfinch is certainly enjoying his food. LOL!!
Joan: Thanks...hope we both get some rain soon. I'm been a bit discouraged with my inability to use the camera better (my own fault). It has a macro setting, but when I try to make it focus on the object that I want, it seems to always focus somewhere in the background. Especially if I am trying to zoom in from a distance as well. I will have to get Mike to fiddle with it....he set me up some settings before, but the camera reset itself recently and I lost them. I'm just flat out ignorant about anything but "autofocus".....and very lacking in patience to learn. What I really want is a camera that is a whole lot smarter than I am! Even when I read the book, my mind just seems to hear "blah, blah, blah".

Yep - it's dry here too, but is cooling down a bit. The little goldfinch doesn't mind though - his seeds are dry.

Great shot of the goldfinches. I had to quit feeding the birds in my back yard as the squirrels have burrowed under plants, down into the grass, ...it was becoming too big of a mess and if I want to sell this house next year, I can't have the yard looking like this.
By August, I think everything everywhere is probably looking pretty droopy.
I know just what you mean. At our house the weeds have now taken over my garden and the bugs have made themselves right at home. It was cool here today, and I did get out for a walk to take some pictures, but a mosquito was following me where ever I went. It's sort like a tailgaiter. You can't travel at your own pace! My Coneflowers are really looking sorry now, and haven't seen any butterflies in a couple of days. I hope your camera gets its act together.

Sandy:The birds and squirrels do make a huge mess at times. I'm sure if I sold my house the first thing someone would do would be rip out my so-so over-grown landscaping and neaten things up considerably :-) I'm a messy gardener at the best of times.

Great close-up of the finch eating the sunflower seeds. I spent quite a bit of time studying the dragonflies in the sidebar. I wish I could remember them. I need to get a book, I guess.
Jane Marie: I had never looked at dragonflies until this year! Suddenly everyone was posting pictures and rattling off the names, so I went looking. I found the names for most of mine by checking for images on the internet. The males were easiest to find and eventually I saw all the females, too. We seem to get mostly blue ones here. I've seen one other pair that isn't in the sidebar....the Slaty Skimmers. There is one huge type that flies around at the wetlands that I've never gotten a picture of...it never sits still! I would love to know what it is! It looks like it has a hump.
We've had such a wet summer here in CT and in MO where mom and dad are. BUT, regardless, fall is fast approaching. Funny how even under ideal conditions the hands of time keep on going forward. (sigh)
As far as your focus woes - I've encountered the very same thing and it is SO frustrating! Maybe someday I'll bother to read the instructions - O bother!

Annie: Our summer has been pretty mild, but has gotten very dry, which is never good. Once we get some rain things will be lovely again.
John: I don't know what they are. Most of this vine was a volunteer, and yet it looks pretty much like the "store bought" one that I got which is also on this tree. I don't know if I can find the name of it. It has small white flowers that attract a lot of bugs and bees and a vew butterflies. If I find out I will let you know.
Great shots - still have to see one of those life!
