Nashville Quilt Show 2008....wow

This was a great quilt show! The following was my favorite quilt of the entire show....which is really hard to choose from so many..... and which did not win a ribbon. I love poppies and I love green.....so here were two of my favorite things in one beautiful quilt!

It was hard to take a picture of the entire quilt, so mostly I took close-ups of parts of it (which will probably be on my desktop for weeks :-)

Each block was just beautiful and so much work.

These roses were lovely and I took some close-ups but I can't post everything.

For the dog lovers here are two very different dog quilts but I like both. Pull them up large and read what the first one says....funny!

More dogs

I love crazy quilts! This was not really a quilt but was in a small section of needlework pieces. Wonderful details all over this! I would love to make something like this.

Another close-up of one corner.

Beautifully done .....so lifelike!

Rocks and cattails......so real!
Wonderful elephant quilt and even better up close!

Another African theme.....the corners were great! That chimp in the upper left is stuffed to give it a 3-D effect.

This was gorgeous up close and so real looking!

Another winner in my book, and the judges, agreed with me for once :-)

This was probably my second-favorite and I would like to find the patterns for this one. Each animal was just terrific. I added some close-ups below. I had trouble with some of my photos not being sharp. Not sure what I was doing wrong, but was frustrated with some of my results.

Isn't he cute?

Possum and babies

Had to include my "nemesis" of the moment.....skunk!

When I get the photos put into albums, I will post a link for those who want to look at lots more quilts. There were many beautiful traditional quilts as well as these nature themes. Besides the main juried show, they had several interesting extra exhibits......one was Abe Lincoln quilts (those were nice), one was based on images from currency. They always have a "guild challenge"....which is a separate competition where guilds enter several challenge themed quilts and compete against each other as a guild. There were quilts that were done by schoolkids and are being sent to other countries as part of the Heifer project, and more! I think I actually saw more quilts that I wanted to see!.......maybe not.

What a pleasant surprise to find your blog through Skywatch! I am a quilter and love hand applique. I was oohing and aahing over each quilt you showed and had to click for closeups along the way. Love your blog!
I am currently setting up my fourth blog (I'm crazy) and this one will be about my 101-year-old house, my antiques, and my quilts. I'll stop by and let you know when it's ready. You might find it interesting. In the meantime I am putting you on my reader list so I can find you again. Great stuff!!

I wonder if we will see the squirrel quilt again on Squirrel Sunday? These are all beautiful. And I am getting more confused than ever. I want to make a baby quilt for an expected grandchild, and I would like a nature theme (surprise) but the more beauty I see in the quilts you show the more hopeless I am in coming to a decision about what to focus upon. I have decided though that I will cross stitch her name on a pastel gingham block and at least I can get started there.
You go to so many beautiful quilt shows! And I cannot believe the beauty and variety! Lovely pictures, thanks for sharing them!

Jane Marie: I'm glad you stopped by! Will look forward to your blog.

Ann: I know....I have a dozen or more quilts in my mind that I want to make and everytime I see something new it goes on my list! I really want to learn to do this applique more easily. I hope I can find the patterns for that last quilt with the animals on it. I think I could manage some of them if I find the patterns. It sounds like you have a good place to start! A lot depends on what skill level you feel you can manage. If you don't know how to do applique, you can just buy nature themed fabric and use it in simple pieced blocks. With a nice cross stitched center block, you could find other pastel nature fabrics to put with it. There is so much great fabric out there! If you ever want to discuss more quilt stuff email me at mvfreeman@juno.com

Cicero: Aren't they amazing?? I just stand there in awe snapping pictures.

Goodness! I have never seen anything like this...I had planned to mke a quilt for my daughter from her baby clothes...I got it all cut, and about 1/2 put together, and now I don't think I'll ever be able to finish it! The crazy quilt needlework is gorgeous.

Looks like there was plenty to see at the quilt show! It has been a while since I have been to a quilt show....I used to always go to the Rockome Gardens Quilt show...then they didn't have it one year because they changed hands. I didn't make it to the next one but my friend did and she said they just had the quilts folded laying over racks and that just isn't good enough for a big quilt show in my opinion.

it was by no means as huge as the one in Bloomington, or the one in Nashville, but there had always been a few big name quilter's quilts shown there.

I called to see if they had changed the display this year and they hadn't so I didn't bother going.

Those quilts are absolutely gorgeous. I so admire anyone who can do such beautiful work. I can see why you had trouble deciding which was a favorite. I would have to choose several! I do like the Poppy one, and the stones and cattails.
Thanks very much for sharing them with us.

Helen: I hope you can finish it some day. One of the first quilts I made was for my daughter and was cut from clothes I had made for her or myself and any other fabric I had....in the days before I had a quilter's "stash".

Anne: You have said that before, and I am surprised because it seems like most countries have quilting of some sort...perhaps more artistic and less "bed covers" in some cases.

Rose: I'm not familar with the Rock Gnomes Garden show. I got to Bloomington's show every year....maybe we can meet there this coming year!

Becky: I bet there are wonderful quilt shows in your area if you are in Amish country. I'm not a huge fan of the Amish quilts...too plain for my tastes, but I know that your area must be full of all sorts of quilts. You need to find a show and go to it.
