This was the video of the Flicker singing....not a good photo, but I had never heard one sing before. Interesting, if not pretty :-)

...great capture! I've often heard them singing in the woods, but have never seen them singing up close to the point of actually watching their bills move!!

How lovely Mary. Bird song is always a pleasure to hear, okay, plus frogs and crickets and lions and definitely NOT telephones. :)

Wonderful video. Now I know what the bird call was that I heard across the street from me last year was. Thanks!

I have heard that call in my backyard, but was never able to tell what bird was singing. Thanks for the post!

We had a VERY noisy Flicker out in front of our house last summer. ALL summer long we heard that song over and over and over again. That was the noisiest Flicker ever.

I wish that I knew more bird songs. I need to get a CD or something and study them, so I know who is singing! I'm hard of hearing, which doesn't help when trying to identify them.

Eve: I can imagine....rat-a-tat-tat like machine gun fire! We can hear the Pileated that lives around here even when it is far away! We used to have woodpeckers peck on our cedar siding, but they don't do it too often.

George: Thanks!
