Sunday afternoon we went two different places. First we went to an Old Tyme Auto Club car show at the mall.....
I was more interested in the bits and pieces then the actual cars. Mike will probably post more of the cars in his blog soon. There is another collage of some red wheels in my This, That and the Other Thing blog.
I did like this old Packard that was owned by General Pershing during the war years.
All about the Packard.
Then we drove to Blue Grass Wildlife area to see if there were any interesting birds there.
It had gotten very cold as the sun was getting lower and the lakes were all choppy and not very inviting looking. This particular lake look nice in the light.....
....and there were a whole flock of Coots getting ready to spend the night sheltered away from the wind. I felt bad for disturbing them, so I stayed in the car and didn't take any close-up shots. There were about 30 of them!
One hawk soaring high as we headed home.
And lots of blackbirds getting ready to settle in this field! There were 1000's of them all in this one corner.

Its amazing to see those Coots together now as they will soon be arguing with each other, as its that time of year.

Love the birkds, especially all those blackbirds in the stubble field.
Love how you've captured the muted mood of a cold winter twilight as birds gather themselves in for the night. The lone hawk adds its own note rising on the wind.
Roy: They were being pretty friendly at the moment..safety in numbers and looking for a warm cove for the night, I guess. I usually only see 1 or 2.
Arija: It looked pretty comfy, but so high, I would need a step stool to get in.
Country Dreaming: There was more mood then anything else that day :-) Very windy and cold.
Neat! I've never seen coots before - and I just love their name!
Annie: I hadn't seen them until this year, but now I see at least a couple every time I go to Blue Grass. They are rather funny looking with that white bill and they have huge feet. Would like to study them more closely, but they always swim off to a distance when they see me.

Those Coots are so cute. I'd like to see some up here, but it's way too cold! -8ยบ here this morning!
I think that coon is a young one too. The DVD I'm making will be of Warre. I'm in the process of photographing all the old buildings I can find, plus my grandparents' home, and any other interests I can find from my childhood. Gary and I are into genealogy of my family, and this might be nice for future generations. We worked a long time for all this, but the grandchildren can just read about it..

I like all the pictures, but for some reason the one with the blackbirds just draws me into it.
I like the others, too. That is a really nice collage...I like the coots...just like them all.
Those cars bring back lots and lots of memories Mary. Now if that is not dating myself, I dont know what is!! LOL!! When I see a lot of black birds like that I always think of Alfred Hitchcock. :)
Rose: Thanks...the blackbirds all coming together was fascinating, even if they are "just blackbirds". I watched them as long as I did the coots!
