"Rain, rain, go away......." I'm tired of grey and gloom and rain, but I suppose ice and snow is just as bad and more dangerous. Sigh.....I want to get outside!

He looks pretty dry....must have been before the rain.
My wren was one of the bright spots of the day. I thought its beak look funny in this photo....like it has a double chin or something. I guess that is what too much peanut butter will do for you!
Doesn't appear to be amused at my humor. Pausing to look around.....knows I'm there somewhere.
Can't seem to find me.....
....but to be on the safe side, he grabbed a large chunk of peanut butter and went away with it.
The House Finches are always a bright addition. I have not had many this year, which is unusual. Maybe it if turns colder. I had 3 males out there today.
He sees me, too!
This Dove was a couple days ago when it wasn't as wet out.
Always a few Goldfinches on the bag.
I always feel guilty for ignoring the House Sparrows, so I made a concentrated effort to take some decent photos and to study their variations in color at the neck.....I'm really desperate, you can tell.
This one has very little color under the white collar.
I always think it looks like a white collar and black tie of some sort. Very natty!
Mr. Red Bellied Woodpecker occasionally pecks around on the ground. He likes the sunflower seeds better than the suet, I believe.
Hope the sun shines soon.....and that I have time to get out in it!

How the heck do you get such clear photos? A zoom I presume, but you must be outside and close to your feeders? The way mine are set up, I can only view them from the house, and there's (obviously) glarey glass between me and my feathered friends. Frustrating!
OH RIGHT NOW!!! MY FIRST YELLOW FINCH OF THE SEASON. YEA!!!
Annie: Look at my dome photo above and I stand right at those windows beside the front door and shoot most of my photos or looking out the patio doors onto the deck. I shoot through glass most of the time. You can see how close the bird feeders are to the front door. I bring the birds to me :-) Not everone wants that sort of mess. I do zoom as much as possible. The squirrel on the corn are the only two taken outside...standing in the garage across from this tree.
That is one big beak on that wren Mary!!! I'm looking forward to seeing a Carolina Wren when I move.
You have the same birds I do, except I don't have any Wrens OR any of those darling squirrels.

Becky: You just saw one of those "darling squirrels"....capture it and take it home :-) Of course, I never see the grey squirrels even though they live in this area, so maybe my big fat Fox Squirrels are a bit territorial.

I'm am just out of their range. I get the house wren here but I've only had him here for about 3 years...for some reason they did not nest on my property but then about 3 years ago one male showed up and now he comes back every year to fill up my bird boxes!!! haha!
Your glass is obviously much cleaner than mine...POOH!
Eve: I wish I knew where mine nest. They have tried the garage a couple of times. Need to hang some wren houses for them.
Annie: Obviously you have not looked at my glass :-) I think the short distance is the key and a decent zoom and good autofocus.
YOu are getting some good shots with that new camera. I enjoyed them and wow, looking at all your snow in the above post! Stay warm and enjoy photographing the birds from inside, unless you're a crazy woman and go out in all that cold, ha.
The wren looks mad at you for hiding his peanutbutter. LOL!!
Sandy: Can tell you aren't from up north by your comment on "all my snow". It wasn't even an inch probably and was gone by noon :-) Pretty while it lasted and no road problems....that's the way I like my snow.

Betsy: I don't seem to check my Blogger dashbord, so it's probably a good thing if they are that slow!
Ruth: Brrrr....I don't like it that cold! I'm glad we are below the snow beltline and have fairly decent temps most of the winter.
Richies: I have both Goldfinches and House Finches all year and an occasional Purple Finch in any season, too. We seem to be a good year-round zone for a lot of birds.
