I hope these will be my last ice and snow photos! It is suppose to get up to 40 today!
I was trying to catch the sun shining on the ice, but am not too sure how to do that.

I could really see the sun glinting on the trees outside through the skylight, but that defeated me in trying to figure out how to capture it :-) At least it doesn't show the cobwebs in the skylight.
I took very few bird photos. Partly because there were no interesting birds and partly because I was watching the 5 hour and 14 minute tennis match between Nadal and Verdasco...what a match! An endurance match as much as a great tennis match!

I'll say one thing for these Cowbirds...they can eat from this feeder. My regular birds hate this feeder and the seeds don't dispense from it very well.

The Red-Bellied just keeps on eating.
Wings up for ballance for this little sparrow on the ice.
It took me a bit to figure out what this squirrel was doing draped over that branch. I finally realized he had a chunk of the old suet cake that I had taken out of the big feeder to replace with a new one. I broke the pieces and threw them on the ground and apparently he snagged one and ran up this tree with it. He looked so funny the way he was draped on the limb to have both paws free to hold it! Kept him happy for quite some time :-)

Your first picture, Mary, with the sun on the snow/ice is GREAT. The coloring in that picture is perfect.
That Starling in the first bird picture not only needs a bath--but also needs a haircut!!!! ha...
Glad we don't have cowbirds. They look like blackbirds in your picture--but I assume they are smaller.
Did you used to play tennis??? Why the interest???

Richies: Lucky you! I'll be happy if it gets to 40 today and the trees start melting. The power co. crews will be happy, too, I bet.
Betsy:LOL! That starling just finsihed his bath and was preening and he does need a good hairstylist! Cowbirds are a type of blackbird...about same size as Starlings and Redwings. I've always loved tennis and played for fun when I was younger. It is the only sport that I watch on TV.
Mary you've been busy!! I missed so many posts. I hope all the ice and snow is gone! I wish it would be for me but we've got MONTHS of this stuff still to come. I don't think any of the birds look very happy at all but maybe it's just me! I'm not very happy with this stuff! Hope you send a warm dry post soon!

Sure hope your ice melts today. We had 9º here this morning, and 3" of snow over night again. We're supposed to get the 40º tomorrow. We'll see.

Eve: I always feel like a whiner over our brief snow and ice storms with what the eastern part of the country puts up with. But that is the point of living here...I don't want much snow :-)

Beautiful pictures if ice and and your birds! We are in Cicero, IN, a subburb of Indianapolis. We have seen plenty of snow and ice! Last night at 11 p.m. it was 3 degrees.
We're enjoying sunshine and warmer weather today, but the weather man is threatening us with a return to cold next week. That's the last thing I wanted to hear.

Dorothy:I didn't know Indy was claiming suburbs that far north! I grew up in Indy out near the airport.

Ruth: It's very pretty when the sun shines on it. Everywhere we went today chunks of ice were falling off trees and overhead lines...sort of hazardous right now.
Jenny: Thanks! I don't knit, so he is out of luck :-) I could make him a quilt. I tend to call all the squirrels "Star" any more, but that one may be "Stumpy". It's tail looks sort of short. I've been wondering if the ones that are hanging around the deck are young ones from last year and the ones out front the older ones.
I dont know what you are complaining about Mary, those first two shots are spectacular!! Really awesome!! You did a fantastic job on 'not knowing how to do it'. I hope you are busy knitting those socks!! LOL!!
All these icy sticks look beautiful! Although I doubt if birds and other creatures enjoy all that snow and cold.. poor their feet...

Joan:Thanks, but there is a lot more beautiful "glinting" in the sun that I can't seem to capture. Truthfully....I'm sick of looking at it with or without light. I'll have to take kniting lessons before I start on those socks :-)

More MARVELOUS winter scenes with so many critters. I watched that marathon tennis match too ... even blogged about it at Small Reflections. It was more exciting than the Championship Match in my view.

Beautiful nature shots, i love the shots of the birds absolutely gorgeous. Looks cold where you are it has been 43 degrees here in Adelaide South Australia and the poor birds are suffering. Im going to get a bird bath so the poor things can have some water.
