Went to the wetlands yesterday for a last walk of the year.
2 killdeer
Great Blue Heron huddling near the trees....it was bitter cold.
Didn't realize until I got home that this was a duck I didn't know. Ring-Necked Duck, maybe?
The Mallards were curled into balls to get warm.
Mr. Mallard stirred at my presence.
Everyone cruised away.
Sparrow high in the tree
One of the "manky" ducks as we were leaving.....the other 3 were there, too, as always. Somethings never change.
Walking out of the old year.......
......the new year is waiting here for me to find it.Happy New Year's everyone!

Beautiful pictures Mary. I wish we had some place to explore right now with out having to drive far away! We got 6" of snow yesterday, and the temp here this morning is 8ยบ

What a great way to end 2008. It's bitterly cold here too. With the wind chill it feels like 30 below zero. Happy New Year.

Becky: Discovering the wetlands this past year was definitely one of my blessings! You would love it because it is very close to the Howell train yards as well :-) If you want to "google earth" the area the coordinants are :37 degrees 57' 41.26" N and 87 degrees 37' 05.26" W for the wetlands and the trainyards are between there and the river.
John: Our weather is so up and down its scary. One day it is 60 and the next 30 or lower and windy. Still no snow, however.

Love all the reflections, especially like the Killdeer because he was facing you. Most of the time the Killdeer are walking away and acting like their wing is broken. I do love to see them do it though.
It is good to see all the water fowl.We of course don't have any right now.Happy New Year and enjoy that new camera.

Looks like a ring-neck to me Mary.
I hope I don't get too frustrated before I figure out more about this new camera. I get real tempted to grab the old one when I know exactly what I want to shoot and can't seem to get it right with this one. Patience...this will be the year I learn patience.
