This has been a really busy bird week here on the homefront. Probably a good thing it was too cold to go anywhere, because I don't know what I would have done with more photos. These are from Wednesday....I hope to catch up soon!
Crab apples must make Robins thirsty! I felt guilty that the water wasn't a bit fresher.
They really are very attractive birds when seen up close with that pretty white eye ring, yellow bill, bright red breast, stripped throat, dark head, grey back.
Oh, course when you take a "snooty" pose, you aren't as attractive!
This Robin did NOT want the Waxwing to share the water!
The Waxwing ignored the Robin. Funny, they will share the apples without any rancor, but not the water?
Sometimes I have little "butterball" goldfinches that just look so young and lost and cold all puffed up and just sitting.
It just sits there falling asleep in the seeds!
But then it perks up again. Must be the terrible cold. Makes me want to rush out with a blanket!
I can't resist taking photos of the handsome Red-Bellied, even when they all began to look alike!
Look at the claws on this guy! Don't want to meet him, too closely.
I love the checkerboard looking feathers.
3 Starlings showed up.
Seen head on, the neck looked purplish.
Sometimes wrens look very cute, but other times they look a bit mean to me with that wicked looking bill.
One last Wren shot.

Your bird shots are just perfect Mary. You must love that new camera. Don't wear it out. LOL.
Robins do seem to get along better this time of year. Normally you would never see that many together in one place.

Wonderful shots Mary, I love the Waxwing header...I've been so busy lately...I'm trying to catch up on my "bloggies" hahaha!
I am quite jealous of all you people with bierd feeders and justification for feeding the little birds to help them survive in the cold and snow.
Here it is inadvisable to feed them as they become dependent and are left high an dry if you travel or die. It would be splendid to photoraph them so close up.

Even though you have many different birds, the Starlings are just the same the World over. I wish I could see Waxwings regularly like you.

Becky: Well, you pushed some of that winter weather down here! It's zero out at the moment! Poosr birds are cold!!
Eve: Thanks...I think we all have that problem with keeping up.
Arija: That is sad that you can't feed them. I'm afraid I would be tempted to try a bit of food anyway, but not as lavishly as I do here at home. I would think they would revert back to the natural food if you went away.
Roy: Ah, yes...Starlings, another gift from overseas :-) Luckily I don't get any except in the very worst weather. Those 3 have already moved on. My waxwings are just about gone. I saw 2 yesterday looking for the last few apples, but I have nothing else to offer them.
Richies: That Robin really got pissed at that Waxwing for wanting to share! They do seem like some people I know and the waxwing just ignored the "criticism" and drank anyway. I imagine our pond is frozen at the moment.
I just love all your pictures.We have had up to four Robins this winter.The Red-bellied is so gorgeous.

You have the BEST bird pictures!! You must have all th Robins up there, I don't see any here. Also, I don't have the woodpeckers and Cedar Waxwings :-(
I think I may have already commented on this, but you have another pic with the same indication. The Robins and Waxwings seem to come at the same time. Love the Red Bellied, and really had never noticed the checker board before. Will be on the lookout for that now.

Mary: That was a lovely set of bird photos, nice grouping of robins.
We reached -11F this morning with the sun shining.
Rottlady: The way it has been blowing the last few days, I think grooming is out of the question!
Dorothy: Thanks! I don't know why the Robins and waxwings are hanging around in this cold. Now that the apples are gone, they will be smart to move on south!
Leedra: I really find myself fascinated by feather patterns. Some of the birds are really beautiful up close and I would love to do more photos showing the feathers.
Fishing Guy: Brrrr! I thought zero was bad! We are suppose to start warming up...I'm ready!
Looking through, I love all these shots (even the Starlings) (-:. I hope that Goldfinch isn't poorly.
Jenny: I see these little puffed up goldfinches every once in awhile. I always think they look young...or just cold maybe.
Wish I could get the chance to get photos this lovely! I can sit and watch the birds as I type on here, but to look through the window with the camera and take pictures--well, they all turn out washed out. If I go outside it scares them.
More great shots. I enjoyed them.
