Last Call......

The birds must have heard me when I yelled "Last call...." for the October Bird count!
This morning the Song Sparrow put in an appearance. Were you looking for me?
The Cowbird showed up yesterday!

The Bluejay was already here, but I don't get very many photos of him.

The White-Crowned Sparrow showed up this morning, also!
3 additions to my count!
Mike swears that he hears an owl in the neighborhood and something swooped over the car last night when we were leaving......maybe if I go out real late or real early?????
The only time I've seen an owl here was when a small one flew into our garage one year :-)
We do hear them in the neighbor's trees somewhere in the area and I would love to see one!
I think this might be my little hurt goldfinch.....

It was cold this morning and she was sitting around all puffed up and burying her beak in her feathers. Sigh.....I tried to throw some seed where she was sitting without scaring her away.
I went back to my October 1st posting to see if I could put a name to that "mystery warbler" I had, and think it might be a Tennessee Warbler.....I hope so because I have never seen one before! Here is the post if anyone wants to take a look and see if they can confirm it.

Okay, just get out there in the wee hours of the morning and call the spirit of the owl to you. Maybe he will show up and bring some friends along.

hoot..hoot.

Hi Mary, I looked back at your 1st Oct post and yes it looks like a Tennessee to me. By the way, did you get my Raspberry Gin recipe the other day?

LOL! The "Mary the owl whisperer"?....I don't think so. I wish....but I don't think so. Actually, getting out of bed early might be the hardest part :-)

Jenny: Thanks for the confirmation and the recipe! I just found it!

Joan: Yes, I do enjoy finding new birds both for my life list and this bird count :-)

Happy birding Mary...I hope you get more for your count! That poor, poor little goldfinch! I probably wouldn't be much help with your warbler...they are a tough bunch this time of year.

Steve: What are you doing in Ottawa instead of in Kent counting birds?? Hard to see them from there :-)

Eve: I think I've probably counted all I'm going to see, but who knows what the last day will bring! The winter birds are definitely returning. I worry about the little goldfinch a lot...especially since we have a cat hanging around that is not mine.

I'm sorry about your little finch. This weekend I hope to be able to do some birdwatching and photographing. It's been so dark when I leave in the morning and when I return at nite. Love your photos.

Fishing Guy: Thanks!

Marnie: I need to get out, too and find some birds in the wild :-) But I do love having them come to me!

What nice shots. I've had one unusual visitor to my yard. I think I captured a couple of good shots but we'll see. Hopefully they're as nice as yours.
