I want to finish these photos from yesterday before we leave tomorrow morning.
We pulled into one area and kept seeing 1000's of birds swarming in the air and landing. These all look better if you click and make them larger.
I like this photo.....it looks better full size...and have it on my desktop right now :-)
The area where we first saw them landing was near one of the small lakes and these very tall grasses lined the gravel road. I'm standing and looking up at these and could barely see any of the birds inside!
I finally handed my camera to Mike.....since he's a foot taller than I am....and told him to shoot some photos of them! He says they were red-wing blackbirds, but I never saw any wing color.....just black.
Shooting the air was bound to get some of them! Here they are all on edge veering in for a landing in a field.
This one little field area was packed with them! I like the way the sun shown on their wings and tails making them look white.
Sort of Hitchcock like!
Look at the glow on that one landing on the right!
OK......maybe that is a few more birds than I really wanted to see.
I shot grasshoppers on the tall grasses at my eye level :-) You could barely take a step without stirring up a few grasshoppers.
There is a little country church and cemetery on the edge of the wildlife area, so we stopped for a look. The roof on this steeple looks really old and original.
Just a nice church in the corn and bean fields :-)
I like the old tombstones with the German writing.
We call this house "The Painted Lady in the Beanfields". We drive past it on our way home and it is just so weird and out of place in the middle of a farm area! It isn't that old. I think our house was built before it was, but they wanted this faux Victorian look. I imagine all you see from that "widow's walk" on top is rolling countryside.
There was a nice sunset, but hard to find a place where the trees were low enough to get photos!

Neat house but it does seem out of place. Enjoyed the photos and like the banner.
That's amazing to see so many birds in one area.I do like the way the wings light up on the one that is landing.
Multitudes of blackbirds and a gorgeous sunset!! Also I see you have more birds on your October list than I have. I'm still waiting for the blackbirds to pass through on their migration routes but they should be here soon.

Don't tell me the two of you are off somewhere AGAIN!! My goodness, I think it is about time you stayed at home for a while. LOL!!
That is definitely out of a Hitchcock film Mary!! I have never seen so many together!! I love the grasshopper and of course the beautiful colors of the sunset.
I enjoyed the photos. The victorian house does look out of place in the middle of that stark field. If it were mine, I'd so some serious landscaping to blend those hard lines into the natural surroundings. They must like animals;)

I haven't been by in a couple of days. It's been crazy here. We had to get all the paper, license work done on our new van. Makes the day go so fast.
Anyway I bet all those birds were eating the
grasshoppers...
I like the Painted Lady house with all the animals. I would hate to heat it though. Pretty fancy for out in the "boonies".
That sunset is breathtaking.

I was going to say that all those birds reminded me of the movie 'The Birds' but you sort of beat me to it--it was a Hitchcock movie wasn't it?
I love that little church and that house...the house makes me smile. Someone did not mind being different! I wonder if it was made to go up and watch for fires?

The birds are awesome...I wish I could tell what kind they are. Red-wing...rusty blackbirds...cowbirds??? Even full size I just cant tell!!
