Bird back....

This is the back of the bird in question in the post below....sure looks sparrow-like to me. Combined with the front view below.....maybe a Field Sparrow? They have an eye ring. I didn't mean to mislead anyone with that other photo.

Yep - that looks more like a sparrow. Closest match (other than Field Sparrow) I could find was the Sage Sparrow and if so, it's probably a juvenile. Problem is that Indiana is far to eastern for his range...
Tough to ID.. :)

Mary, I agree with you that its probably a Field Sparrow. Did it have a pink bill also? It has a lot of other Field Sparrow parts: light rusty cap, no black eyeline, white eye ring, two white wing bars, clear breast. We sometimes get Field Sparrows here. Another good find for you!

I'm gonna agree with Ann on the field sparrow...wish I could hear it...then I would know for sure!

I appreciate all the help as always. If it is a Field Sparrow, I have another new bird! I've never seen one at my home feeders among the other sparrows. You guys are really filling my life list out with your identifications :-)

Eve: I wish that I could recognize birds by their songs, but other then the obvious ones like Chickadees, killdeer, cardinals, bluejays, I'm pretty hopeless!

Well, you know I can't help you. I'm still learning what most birds are. :-)
