....you have to search the archives to avoid having nothing to post! I had to go all the way back to November to find some photos we took one evening at Burdette Park on the way home from somewhere else. I don't go to this park often.....too commercial, too many people, more of a popular recreation place than a place to watch nature.
As we drove through the park, we had to stop to avoid a rag-tag group of geese and ducks that were basically blocking the way hoping for a hand-out. I guess some of these are true "manky" Mallards. I can certainly see a wide variety of mixing has gone on.
The once wild and the tame all hanging out at the edge of the lake.

The fountain in the center of the lake is rather attractive and the surrounding park is lovely if it wasn't so full of people usually.

This one was really unusual! (NOTE: I looked this one up and it is an African Goose)

I, like you, avoid the crowded "parks" that really have little in the way of nature attractions. But I really enjoyed these photos! How neat to look at those mixes! And those ones with their beaks in the air are so funny. Brought a smile to my face. :)

Arija's poem and your images remind me of "Duck Duck Goose!" This day's venture while not into the wild yonder of any color, still passes as an entertaining look at bird life. What rascally endearing waterfowl!
Debbie: It's so hard to see the nature when there are lots of people around, but I'm glad we have so many nice parks here.
Philip: They were rather agressive, but I always feel sorry for the ducks and geese that have gotten used to being fed by humans...what if nobody brings them anything?

CountryDreaming: I think of "Duck,Duck,Goose" whenever I see a mixed bunch at the wetlands. Amazing how our childhood surfaces at times :-)
Some of these ducks ands geese are unique,for sure.I know how you feel about too many people being in a park.I guess they should make a park devoted to bird watchers.:)

This reminds me of down by the river here...there are geese and ducks always wanting a handout.
And for two or three years, this white goose had her nest in the shrubs that were against the sunroom part of the local Dairy Queen.
That's OK, Mary. Ducks and Geese always make for good subjects no matter what time of year.
Those Geese can sometimes be pretty nasty..

Ruth: LOL...if they did we would all fall over each other with our cameras!
Rose: We have a creek system that runs through the local shopping area and in the spring there are ducks and geese with their babies waddling through traffic...scary!
Becky: I know what you mean about geese...I was staying sort of behind the car. I should probably go check on that park again. At this time of year it would be pretty desereted. It is one of the main places for families to go swim in the summer and is always packed, but they have cabins there that might be nice at this time of year.

Great pictures from the park. There's a similar park in Hendersonville (where G's parents live) that has tons of ducks and geese --begging for food. I'm like you---I don't want to go to a place like that which is so full of people....

I'm not too good with crowds either Mary. That last goose is certainly weird looking, there seems to be a growth under its chin as well as above its beak!
I don't blame you for avoiding crowded parks. I don't care if they're crowded by people or waterfowl or both -- I prefer ess crowded parks.
Cute!! I have heard of them chasing people if they do not get fed so beware!! :)
Dorothy: That "nose in the air" walk just cracks me up. They were funny.
Betsy: I'm going to try to not watch so many tennis games this time, but it's been a long time since the last big tournament. I don't mind the tame waterfowl looking for food if they aren't nasty agressive, but I know it is not good to encourage them. I suppose a lot of little kids get their first appreciation of ducks and geese through feeding them bread, so it's not all bad.
Jenny: It did look weird. I know nothing about domestic geese, so I don't know what if normal.
George: I suppose it is arrogant that we want the parks all to ourselves :-)
Joan: Yes....I've been chased by a geese before when they had nests nearby. They used to nest around the lake of our local zoo.
The goose looks like a mixture of Toulouse and Chinese.
