Great Blue Heron having a "great" day.....

We went to Howell wetlands yesterday. It was cold, but there was occasionally a bit of sun showing through. The first thing we saw when we headed across the boardwalk was this Great Blue Heron fishing the edge of the lake. He didn't seem to mind us.
I like this photo because you can see the black feathers on his head blowing backward. Usually they seem to be plastered to their head and don't show much when I see them.

He was really doing well with the fishing! This was strike #1....

....catch #1.....
....swallow!
Another one...

....another strike (he seldom missed)
Not real big, but if you catch enough of them, it fills the belly!

Again......my favorite shot :-)
Pretty good size on that one!
He just kept stalking the edge and striking one after another. It was fun watching him....he was very accurate.
Taking a rest at the side of the pond.
Sort of a twisted position here.
I'll post more from Howell tomorrow.

Nice shots Mary.
I bet you were pleased to brave the cold. I too like that head under the water shot well taken.

I can't keep up with your posts at the moment Mary! (-: Lovely fishing shots, I too love that underwater one, it shows his dark wings well.

What a great display, and I can't believe he let you stay there while he fished. Must be he was very hungry.

Thanks everyone! He was so intent on fishing and catching so many that it was easy to wait and catch him in the act. I finally got too cold and left his to his fishing:-)
