The minute I put a new pinecone out with peanutbutter or suet mix, the birds all come swarming. Obviously it is the highest calorie count and source of energy they can find!
The Bluejay got there first this time.
Looking from underneath
The Downy has such a rapt look of concentration! Her eye is on the prize!
Her balancing act is pretty impressive, too.
I had 5 of these beautiful Bluebirds out there last week, but they don't seem to do as well at finding something they like to eat and can get to easily. I'd lay something out on a plate, but the Starlings would gobble it up. They actually seem to be hanging out with the Starlings.
A female Bluebird. I have 3 males and 2 females.
Studying the problem, but not sure what to do about it.
Bluebirds don't make good "hummingbirds"! The Starling tried this approach also. I guess they can't lean as well as some of the other birds.
The Cardinal show no interest in the peanut butter and just keeps cracking sunflower seeds.

Great pictures, Mary... I put out some peanut butter (on a seed bell) today--to see what I could attract!!!! I'll keep you posted.
I also put out fresh 'warm' water for them every day. Seems like we have more and more birds at all of the feeders this week. I'm so glad we are here to feed them, aren't you????
Great pictures..
Hugs,
Betsy
Super pictures Mary. You do get some amazing detail! Love the Bluebirds. You will have to buy some mealworms for them.

Ok Mary, I'm hanging peanut butter today! These pictures are wonderful!!!
These three blogs were so much fun to look at. I saw my first cardinal this summer at my feeder, once, but I never saw him again. I guess the victuals just weren't to his liking. They are pretty new to New Brunswick.
Beautiful pictures.I especially like the Bluebird trying to hover.Great capture.
Blessings,Ruth
Wonderful shots!!!
I love those wren shots.
