They are still working on our road, but I had to get out for an eye appointment today. Since I had "escaped" for awhile, we went to the wetlands as well (where I tried to take photos with my eyes dilated to huge size....it's a wonder I could focus at all!)
This is out of order, but was my favorite shot of the day. The leaves don't have a lot of color yet, but reflected in the water they look pretty.
First thing we saw was a Great Blue Heron standing on the far side of the pond.
He was very busy looking for fish, so he didn't mind us being there.
An itch to scratch.
Back by the creek, we saw this immature Red-Shouldered Hawk (?) Long tail with stripes. He wasn't in the best place for the light, but I was thrilled to see him sit there. One wing seems to have a stray feather or two sticking out.
Since I didn't get a good photo of the Painted Lady last week, I'll show her today :-) We also saw Pearl Cresents...very torn up, and Buckeyes.
Mike took this one because I was having trouble with the light and my eyes.

There are many types of oaks near this creek.

The geese were staying in the distance, but I wanted to show how many were hanging around. I count about 70.....and a log full of turtles :-)

These three prefer a little more room in between.

These three prefer a little more room in between.It was good to get out and I hope by tomorrow they will be done with our road and we can park the car at home. Right now we have to walk across 3-4 yards to another road where the car is parked until the road sealant is dry. The rain and shade are really slowing the process down.

Lovely colours emerging but I have never seen geese swimming in pea soup before.
I have to agree Mary, that first shot is stunning. I wonder how those animals survive in the green water. It looks so unhealthy. I love all your fall colors.
Arija and Joan: Duckweed is beneficial to the animals. They eat it and they hide from the sun in it and it removes bad chemicals from the water.

You have some good pictures here that remind us that it is Fall! I can't wait until the leaves all turn their pretty colors!
Ruth: it was just a normal eye checkup so I could get new glasses, but thank you for your concern.
Dorothy: We haven't had any freezes yet, so our color is still in the infancy stage. I'm ready to see more!

Oh yes Mary, that first is my favorite too, but of course each one is spectacular.
There seems to be an over abundance of Duckweed this year. No doubt all the rain.
The leaves are getting better by the day now.

I'm glad you were able to get out and visit the wetlands. Judging from the red leaves you've got more autumn color than we have. I really like that first picture.
I'm glad you took the time to get out Mary. Mike did a very nice job capturing the light in his photos. That's a lot of duck weed!!
