Here are a few more things we saw at Blue grass when we saw the Mockingbirds.
I'm only showing this much of the snake that was in the road, because someone ran over his tail and guts were hanging out. I was surprised he was still alive and felt awful that I couldn't do anything for him. I have no idea what kind, but Mike thought a water snake of some sort. (NOTE: Eve thinks it might be a Corn Snake)
A beautiful Heron posing nicely. Looks like he is soaking up the sun.
This one was stalking the edge of a small private lake in the area.
A Killdeer that we saw resting in the sunshine.
There were two laying in the gravel but they got up when I stepped out of the car for a photo. Felt sorry for disturbing them.
A large Grasshopper. For some reason I don't normally notice their round tail end, but did on this one. Always something new to notice when you watch any creature over and over.

Oh that is so sad about the snake. I think it may be a type of Corn snake. One of the good guys. I heard the killdeers yesterday. I have to go down the driveway to see them. I really love seeing how they raise their young.

I looked through the ones I have.
none are round. as you said we do not really look at our Creators wonderful Creation.
I really like the Heron and the Robin.Both pictures areexcellent.have agreat day.

Anne: I don't like snakes too much either, but I hate to see something wounded and not be able to do anything.
Eve: Glad to know what sort of snake it is...thanks! Killdeers are intereting to watch and I like their cry when they take off.
Nile Life: I see you have another blog...I'm losing track :-) I went back to look at other grasshopper shots I have had and I guess they are all alike, but this one was just at the right angle to notice the tail more.
Ruth: Thanks...the one heron was very cooperative. I think he was too comfortable on his perch to want to fly away :-)
Hi Mary, Too bad about the snake... I hope someone put him out of his misery. That's sad even if I don't care for snakes much.
The grasshopper looked like part of the bush... I had to look hard to see him. Beautiful photo of the Kildeer.

its very small and this was the only shot o managed to get of it also it was not until I got it on the computer I noticed the colors. i tried again today to see one but no Joy it seems a lot of our dragons And butterflies are only here for a short visit.
I hope that snake can recover, but it doesn't sound too good.
I noticed how long the toes are on that Heron..
The Killdeer have all gone from here, along with the Robins. I've been looking and watching the skies for the Tundra Swans, but nothing yet. The skies have been too cloudy anyway.
I just mentioned to Debbie that I didn't realize how many color patterns that Grasshoppers have.

Nile Life: I really don't know butterflies well and that isn't like any I have ever seen. Sorry I can't help.
Becky: I was surprised it had its head up and moved at all. I thought Debbie's grasshoppers were very strange, too! I've never seen any that color.
Oh1 I am so sorry for that beautiful snake! I had the same thing happen here about a month ago. The poor snake died and the next morning a turkey vulture flew down and picked its bones clean!
Kathie: Makes you feel helpless, but I guess it is part of how the food chain works. The sad thing was it was just the tail end of him that was hit, but guts were on the outside, so I don't see how he could survive.
I am definitely not a fan of snakes, but I don't like to see any animal have to suffer. :( Thanks for not showing the whole photo.
Great heron shots. The first one looks like he is standing on a diving board.
I think the kildeer are such pretty birds but I have never one. Is there a particular habitat they prefer?

Lindy: Killdeer like deserted parking lots...gravel...near fields and meadows and water. They nest right in the gravel and blend in. I almost parked my car on one last spring. I always find them in the parking lots at BlueGrass which is a stripper pit area. The best shots I ever got were in an area of gravel parking lot next to a motel in Illinois....one was nesting there and I was worried the 18-wheelers would park on her! They like water in the area, even if it is long standing puddles....I see them at the wetlands, but they want a bit of shore they can run around on.
Tom: Thanks...that one was very quiet and we just stopped the car long enough to take the photo.
I very seldom see a robin now...Neal thinks they stay over in Indy all winter but I sure don't see any here. (We are almost straight west from him.) Maybe because it is a bigger city and holds/gives off more heat. Not sure what the reason would be...I haven't thought to look for them in Terre Haute.
