We had a bit of sunshine on Saturday, so I went to the wetlands....where else??
Not knowing how many days I will get out this week, I will split up the few photos I have :-) 
I saw this lovely hawk on the way home. I was able to park my car at the side of the road just opposite him. He was watching a field on the other side of a fence where they are building some new houses.
He did turn and look at me once.
I thought his back was very pretty.

I thought his back was very pretty.I'm guessing a Red-shouldered Hawk, but I'm always guessing.....never know for sure.
He finally took a dive to the ground on the other side of the fence....hope he got his dinner!

Actually this is quite funny Mary ... you were complaining about all the wet rain and then when you get sunshine, you go to the wetlands? LOL!! Whats wrong with this picture? LOL!!

Joan: LOL! I didn't realize how that sounded :-) However the "wet" is on the ground and not coming down on my head there. Right now anywhere you go is "wet lands". Hope we dry out this week.

I think you're getting quite good at the bird ID's Mary. Nice pictures! I finally broke down and got the Thayers Birding Software's Guide to Birds of North America. My Peterson guide didn't work with Vista. The Thayers is great...a bit more expensive but to me invaluable.

not sure if you are getting my follow on blogs. overloaded the others you were right it was an awful long Nile trip. Google were not too pleased. just had to get another gmail Id, and off we go again.
That is a beautiful hawk. I agree with you - his back is very pretty.
I am thinking you are right about it being red shouldered, but I sure do not know my hawks. But it sure looks like the ones in my books.
