Back in August, Asylum.com chose the "Manliest Restaurant in America"......and here it is! Right here in Evansville, Indiana is the award winning(?) place in question. Actually, a rather historic and well-loved place on the westside of Evansville, it has served up brain sandwiches for generations of restaurant goers. (NOTE: Since I have been asked...yes, they really are brains and yes, they do serve plenty of other things...chicken, fish, burgers, salads, etc.)
The Hilltop Inn was built in 1839 as a stagecoach stop.
If you want to know more history of the place, you can click on this photo to see it larger and read the facts. Back in 2006 Alton Brown, of the Food Channel stopped here and tasted a brain sandwich for his "Feasting on Asphalt" show that traveled around the country visiting eating places of interest.
And here it is.......one of the world famous brain sandwiches! I admit that I will not eat them, but my husband and brother-in-law were happy to do the honors for this post.
And that's My World for this Tuesday!

Okay you really gotta tell what is that brain sandwich?? Kinda looks like fried chicken? Looks like an interesting place to eat LOL.
Do they have other sandwiches there Mary?? Neat restaurant but I'd be skipping the brain sandwiches too - lol!
I am going to stick with you on this one Mary, does not look like "good" food at all. :)
....ughh! I read the Hilltop Inn sign to find out what a "brain" sandwich was. I didn't realize it was an actual brain. Gack! I feel a bit queasy now... No wonder it made it on TV. Cool building--a real stagecoach stop!
Interesting, but I think I'll pass on the brain sandwich! It DOES look like chicken.
Kathy: No joke...that is pork brains. People do eat them, believe it or not.
It must be a "manly" thing for sure. I notice that all of my female readers are like me and the idea of eating brains is enough to make you gag. Yes, they have lots of other stuff...fried chicken and fish sandwiches and burgers and plenty more. Even a few healthy things like salads.
Mary: Very nicely shown, but I'll stick to fish also.
Wonder if I ate enough of those Brain Sandwiches --if my memory would get better. ha ha ha ha
Think I'll stick to fish also!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
Brains of what? I'm with you on where to get brain food.
Oh, I am so with you. There has to be other food to eat which is yummy.
Blessings,Ruth
Gee, I think I would stick to fish too!
Thanks for sharing your world.
I'm not sure that I should have read this after eating! I hadn't heard of brain sandwiches before, and I don't think I want to hear of them again.
OK, I've heard of some pretty yucky foodstuff, but this would take the cake... LOL Hope they enjoyed their lunch.

Well, now that I have grossed all of you out, I will never bring up the subject again :-) I think older generatons who grew up on farms....like here in the midwest....probably grew up eating all parts of any animal they killed. Waste not, want not. Not so common any more.
