It's SkyWatch Friday!
Yesterday I took this photo of the sky over the Hartman Arboretum. Just a touch of wimsey that appealed to me :-)
I just thought it was an odd shot.
This was another oddity we passed earlier in the day. Have no idea why this has been mowed in such a strange way! But the sky is showing over it! (Mike says this isn't mowed, but planted this way....even stranger!)
And finally a bird singing its heart out at the Blue Grass Fish and Wildlife area.

Meanwhile back at the arboretum, we were checking out the progress of the plants and their visitors.
The bees seem to be doing well here!
Look at all the pollen on its head and that overloaded leg sac!
Butterflies and skippers are arriving. This one is a bit ragged.
A very small one on the same flower.
The best one that I saw and the only one willing to spread its wings for me.
This is a more typical shot...tightly closed and upside down.
A few of the flowers in bloom....the weigelia.
Mike took the rest of these.
This was interesting, but I didn't see the name card.
I love this fuzzy green plant!
Looks dead to me, but Mike got a great photo of it!
We rounded off the afternoon, by running out to Blue Grass. We saw these birds sitting in a tree.
The only reason that I know they are Dickcissel is because Rose at Pics and Pieces just posted one from a similar stripper pit area where she lives ......further north in Indiana! Her photos are much better than this! This is a lifer for me and I wish I could have seen them better. Mike took the photo.

Oh My!! WHat a fantastic blog Mary. I love each and every one of them but of course the bees, butterflies and skippers get most of my attention.
That look like a thread of a spider from the sky to your tree. :)
Super SkyWatch photos Mary, and that one of the bee with all the pollen is fascinating, a wonderful capture. Truth be told I love all your photographs. Fantastic nature tour! Have a great weekend.
I love the Dickcissel Mary. I've never seen one but maybe can get one living here in Alabama!
...very nice series of photos. I am on the hunt for Dickcissels. They are in our area (although not in large numbers), and I'd like to see one. I enlarged the photo and they are cute! Beautiful flowers also...

That's funny that the grass (or meadow?) was mowed in those strange patterns - hope there's no aliens - loL! All your photos were very pretty today!

Great shots. The 4th from bottom (white flower) is foxglove. The moth is a hummingbird moth! See my bug web page!
I think that brown plant is bronze fennel Mary. If you go back there, pinch it to see if it smells of aniseed.
Great photos...all the flowers are so beautiful...and that bee with all the pollen is amazing...I love the two first "odd shots"...
The planting in your second photo is definitely strange. I have no idea why it was done, but it certainly makes for an interesting photo! Thanks for the tour of the arboretum.

Another great series of shots. I enjoyed this tour. That was an interesting pattern in the grass but what a great little bit of art to add to the arboretum. :-)
