Bale??????.....what does that mean??? Surely there is a more appropriate name for a collective group of turtles! How about a "pile of turtles"? Or a "log that is over-loaded with turtles"? Must be something better than "bale".
I love this guy! I was amazed that I could crop them down so close and he was still in focus.
He decided to open his eyes for the next photo.

The ones in between deserted the log, but these two are saving their spot :-)

I have to agree on the 'bales' Mary. You have to wonder whre they et these stupid collective names from sometimes. :( I especially like the reflection ones in this series. Lovely.

That's a lot of turtles! ...and I'm with you, a bale of turtles? The only thing "bale" fit with is hay.

Those trutles do like to get warm in the sun don't they? I didn't know a group of turtles was called a bale, the biggest "bale" I saw the other day was 13.
These are great pictures.I love all the reflections.That little guy has a lot of growing to do.

Linda: These are at Howell wetlands, a place that I go regularly. The logs are always full of turtles enjoying the sun.
Kelly:I tried looking in the dictionary, but the other meanings didn't help much...bundle, sorrow
Jenny: Don't know who makes up these things. Mike found a list on the internet. Silly.
Kathy: I saw a lot more than these.
John: I think I counted 22 in one photo...but not all on the same log.
Ruth: It was neat to see all the mixed sizes...family or at least social interacting at all levels.
Eve: Ooops...always miss someone when I try to answer a huge group at once! Do you have a pond on your new property? We tried to put out a log for our turtles this year....I'm sure the neighbors think it is tacky.
We have turtles in our pond, but they're not nearly as cooperative and these!

I never heard of a bale pf turtles but then a murder of crows is also stange.

Annie: There always seem to be dozens of them at the wetlands, no matter when I go. Terrific breeding ground apparently! Pile makes more sense!

I have also been going through my turtle photos from when we took the cruise and then 'park hopping' through Fla. I love to see the turtles all piled up on the logs.

Becky: After the ice storm brought down a lot of branches I had Mike put one in our pond for a turtle log, and I have seen at least one turtle using it so far :-) I think I need a bigger branch than he used.
Leedra: It amazes me the way they all pile up and climb over top of each other and crowd onto the logs. They always provide a cute shot.
I enjoyed these photos...always do.
