Check out this unusual bird...

Peggy at My Empty Nest has photos of an almost black Goldfinch! Check it out! How unusual! I'm so glad she got a photo of this unusual bird.

Thanks, Mary. Coal, aka Tar, is a melanistic goldfinch. According to Dr. Nelson Poirier, "When a genetic mutation results in excess melanin being produced, we can end up with a partially or totally black individual, termed melanistic."
