More stuff from Saturday and Sunday....
Mike spotted this Green Heron standing at the edge of the marsh area.
It didn't seem to mind the sandpipers and Killdeer.
Caught something!
While stalking along the edge it flared its crest giving it a wild look.
Along the edge of the meadow area the Sulphur butterflies were plentiful.
This one was deep inside this folded up morning glory.
I think this is a different type. There seemed to be two sizes and some difference in their colors.
Back by the creek, the swallows were perched in a tree taking short flights to catch bugs.
Some ladies that were out walking pointed out this tree with the "butterfly party" going on. I saw Comma, Question Mark, Red Admiral, Red-Spotted Purple Admiral, Tawny Emperors and Hackberry Emperors! Quite a gathering! That wasp was chasing some of them.
Another shot of some of them.....they were on the side of the tree facing the creek, making it hard to get photos from the bridge where I was.

Butterfly huddle....getting ready for football season?
Question Mark casting a large shadow.
On the leaves of a nearby tree.
I don't often see the Red Admiral closed, so I was glad to get a shot of the outside of the wings.
Another nasty wasp/bee that wanted to chase the butterflies away.
Saw this really big dragonfly....didn't look up a name for it, but it was really big.
This could be a pair of them laying eggs in the duckweed.....or a different kind. They seemed a lot bigger than the Blue Dashers who were harassing them.
And a cute little tree frog. It looks large in this photo, but is no more than an inch long. It was curled up on a leaf by the tree with the butterflies :-)

Oh my!! That sure is a lot of butterflies Mary. Love the little frog too. I never see them here.
Another wonderful selection, Mary. And what a regal party with Emperors and Admirals ... punctuated with Commas and Question marks!
P.S. The frog is so cute it hardly looks real!
Joan: It was odd seeing the butterflies all hanging around one spot, but they do seem to like the trees in that area.

The tree frog..yes they are very tiny..(good photo) probably eves dropping on the conversation!!
Wow! I have never seen that many butterflies in one place. This must have been a special treat.

Grammie G: I think this butterfly party is becoming a real binge....they were still there today. That's 3 days that I know of so far.

Roy: other than this tree full of butterflies, I'm mostly seeing Sulphurs. The big swallowtails seem to have disappeared.
George: I can always count on something at the wetlands. My favorite place that is fairly close.
Early Birder: I checked out your butterflies! You have so many neat ones on your side of the pond that we never see.
I LOVE the Long Shadow one...you know, the one of the Question Mark. Very nice ones of the green heron also.
