Henderson area....

We drove over to Henderson, KY to roam a few of the gravel roads in the slough area, but I don't have much to show for it. Everything is so dry, the fields are beginning to be harvested, and there was very little obvious bird activity where we went. At one stop on a gravel pull-in, there was a patch of these white flowers (don't know what they are) and there was a "party" of Buckeye butterflies enjoying them.
There were maybe 6-7 of the Buckeyes on this one plant.

Hard to get several in one shot and they move a lot.

Took the road to the Jenny Hole Unit and stopped by this swampy area. You can tell looking at the base of the Cypress trees how low the water is from its normal height.

Saw one flooded field and wondered if it had been flooded intentionally for the migratory birds that might arrive this early. We sure haven't had this much rain! They have several of the fields set up with pumps to flood them when it is further into fall weather and hunting and migration are going on. The Ohio River is just the other side of those trees, but the level of water in the river is way below normal! Even if we don't get rain here, I hope they get some up stream and it begins to come down the river.

There was some water standing among the trees in that area, too and I liked how it looked in the shade.
