On a hot summer day, the fountain is the favorite spot for the House Sparrows!
I have lots of young House Sparrows and they sure love water! They were playing in the base of the fountain in the morning, but my photos were not good. I did take a couple videos and have one at the bottom of this post.
"Is this that water park?"
"I'll drink from down low....pesky water keeps blowing away from me!"
On the rim ready to get in the water.
"Look at me! I'm sitting on the frog's head!"
"This is SSSOOOOO good!"

Some how I doubt that when Indiana picked the Cardinal for the State Bird, that they looked like this! Isn't that weird looking???? (NOTE: I found an interesting article on the net about bald cardinals....either molting or mites or both...click here I see at least one bald one every year.)

That's a great fountain for the birds! I need to get something other than just a pan of water! You made some good pictures of the birds drinking. Love that one of the water being blown away!
those sparrows are precious drinking from the fountain. perfect for hot days of summer. and that cardinal does look a wee bit funny. love your fountain. it's gorgeous. have a great night.

Really Cool(LOL) Mary. I love the looks that poor Cardinal gets. I wonder if it's molting.. My chickens are, and they look terrible.

I think we need to find that Cardinal a wig.This is about as bad as I've seen it. :)

Hi Mary, I have never seen a Cardinal looking that bad.... Goodness ---he needs a make-over!!!!! ha
I don't think we have House Sparrows here --at least none at my feeders... But--from what I've read, that may be a good thing...Can't they be really mean????? The pictures make they look like little angels....

LOL!! That is quite the busiest place in your garden it seems. Love the look on the sparrows face and I cannot say I blame him as that is one funny looking cardinal. :) Wonder what happened to him? :)

I thought your photos of the birds at the fountain turned out quite well. I do agree, however, that you did capture one very sad-looking cardinal.
I'm going to ask Santa for a fountain like yours. I love it.
I have a crow that keeps coming to the feeders that looks alot like your cardinal. Mother Nature sure can be menopausal sometimes. :)

Thanks everyone! I sure enjoy watching them play in the water! Renee...you'll have trouble finding that fountain because Mike made it for me :-) I have several poor looking Cardinals right now, but that one is about the baldest I've seen....poor thing. Hope it is pretty again soon!

Don't you feel so sorry for the cardinals...I have not seen one with this many feathers missing but one here earlier was sure pathetic looking also.

Lindy: I get some bald Cardinals every year. Maybe it depends on the type of environment. Usually it is the females that I see bald.
