Yesterday my sky was gorgeous....blue and full of puffy clouds! I shot a few photos of it while tramping around the wetlands.
I like it reflected on the water as much as looking up!
That's my SkyWatch photos, but I have a few more wetlands photos below.

It's the time of year for the Redbuds and I just love seeing them in patches here and there in the woods and along the highways.
We spotted this hawk....Coopers? Sharp-shinned?....not sure.
The wind was blowing and I kept getting branches in my way, but these are the best two shots.
It seemed to be a day for Song Sparrows. I saw at least three different ones in different areas of the wetlands as we walked the boardwalks.
I included this shot just to show how well it blends in with it's surroundings. Even when I know that the camera is aimed at it, sometimes I can't tell where exactly it is!

This very FAT woodpecker was pecking away in the woods. I think it is the Hairy...it just looked too big for a Downy.
As we were leaving this little swallow landed in the tree, but it was really blowing hard by then. Most of my shots were out of focus. I think it is a Bank Swallow, but wouldn't swear to it. I see them swooping over the water every time we visit. I have seen other types here, so it may be some other kind.
I call this guy "the Orator".....he looks like he is giving a speech and everyone else is listening very closely.
Because it was so breezy, the turtle numbers were down a bit. The water probably felt warmer than the air. Still plenty for anyone who wants to see a turtle. Just for fun, I counted all I could see on each side of the bridge and counted 81. That is just in this one area. There is another bridge area where there are more :-) I don't think we will ever run out of turtles at the wetlands!
A pretty little wildflower that I don't know the name of.
Now the "creepy" thing for the day.....
This is a HUGE anthill/colony! Mike paced it off at about 15' long and 4' wide! I have never seen a huge anthill like this! Have any of you seen this????? I'm glad they are not in my yard.
I call this the "Ant Cave". Creepy....just creepy to see so many.

You and Joan Sap have had a go at the ants today. I should imagine the only country without them would be Iceland. they are so numerous here I have to use fly killer down the holes then they pop up somewhere else If I drop a piece of food on the floor the ants are like a hoover.

do not know any turtle poems.
We hwve had a little Song Sparrow as a regular in our yard for the past couple of weeks now. It sings its cherry song each day. Its pretty cute and specislto us. Have a great day. Ann
Even I had to look hard to find that sparrow Mary, he is so perfectly concealed there. Great shot.
We have both Coopers and sharp shinned hawks here. The main way to distinguish them is size. The Coopers are much more common here. We did have a sharp shinned that would catch birds at our feeder one year.

Great nature shots too of feathered friends and creepy crawly creatures.

Mary: Wonderful display of animals. The turtles always crack me up. The snow has started with some sticking on the ground today.
You got a wonderful shot of the sparrow blending with its environment. I had to enlarge the picture to find it. While I like your sky and reflections, you can keep that ant hill up your way!
Your photos are awesome. Got a goosebumps with that huge anthill. I like birds but I can't get a good shot with my camera. Thanks for sharing and happy weekend!

Hi Mary, Ugh---I've never seen so many ants in one place in my life... GADS!!!!
We have alot of little Song Sparrows around here now also. AND--one flew out of our garage this morning---so I'll bet he/she is building a nest somewhere in there.....????
Your little white flower may be Bloodroot...

I have had your blog open all this day and just now getting time to comment...been doing laundry and hanging it outside, etc.
I have never ever seen an ant colony like that...glad it is not in my yard, too!
The photo with the sparrow blended in...I really had to hunt for it to find it. Would have been easier if I had enlarged it first. But it sure is camouflaged good.
BTW, I have passed through and seen your new header photo and just not taken time to comment...I really, really like it.
