On a nice day like we had Monday, the scenery at Blue Grass is wonderful even without any critters. This area of stripper pit lakes scattered in meadows is a nature paradise.

Looking back at the road we just traveled....the vegetation is so varied.
Bands of color and different types of grasses are everywhere you look
Large areas of the roadside have this plant that I don't know but love how it looks.
Some of the thistles were still looking good.....this area should be very attractive to the Goldfinches!
I hate these Pokeberries when they grow in my yard, but they look pretty in the wild.

Another lake view. It was hard to lighten the land in the photos and not wash out the beautiful skies.
My favorite for the day, were these "pink" grasses scattered among the other colors. They were like a fluffy pink cloud that had landed.

I've got more photos to stretch out for the rest of the week....I hope...unless the weather changes and I get out somewhere else. I'd like to go back to Blue Grass again soon....it seems to be a good time to go.

You still have lots of beautiful flowers around Mary.
We do tend to take the beauty around us for granted sometimes. A wonderful series Mary. It is amazing how now, eben going into fall, there is still such a lot of color in everythng.
...such a beautiful grassland. I wonder if Henslow's Sparrows nest there in the summer? I love meadows, prairies and grasslands...

Hi Mary, So you all are getting the rain now???? Glad ours is over for awhile (I hope)... Your pink grass is gorgeous. Isn't it amazing how we see one thing--and totally miss other beauty around us at times??? Your pictures are gorgeous.

Roy: Yes, we are further south and flowers hang on through October at least. I was not expecting quite so much color and really enjoyed how it all looked together.
Joan: It's a pretty time of year. Our leaves aren't turning much yet...it will be late October before we get the most color. Lots of wild flowers and grasses yet.
Kelly: I've never seen a Henslow's Sparrow.....I'm sure there are many birds there that I never see.
Dorothy and Annie: That smoky pink grass really stands out right now. Very pretty to see spread across the field.
Betsy: Yes, it has rained every day except Monday, so I'm glad I went out that day for photos! I think it will be gone this weekend. I hope so!
Seems like they should change the name of this place from Blue Grass to Pink Grass! That is one marvelously soft and pretty patch of vegetation for sure! I also like how you're identifying so many plants that I've never quite managed to learn. Your blog is very helpful as well as fun to visit for the places you take us to.

This is a beautiful area.The pink grasses are phenomenal.My eyes are often drawn to the varied grasses.

Lovely pictures Mary. Grasses are so lovely and it is so hard to photograph their loveliness.

I grew some record breaking foxtail in my garden this year...I thought about taking a picture but was sort of embarrassed it was in my garden. It is taller than me...I am 5'3" and I have never seen it that tall.
LOL does kinda look like cotton candy spread out in that field. Wonderful shots Mary.
