I first heard the term "Manky Mallard" last year on someone's blog and I like the sound of it. Whether my "odd" ducks at the wetlands are really Manky or just domestic mixes, we like to call them Mankies. We have a little band of them that right now including 2 black, 1 B&W, and 3 pale brown mixes. There used to be 2 white ones.
A Manky Mallard usually results from a Mallard crossing with a domestic duck....or some other kind.
This B&W Manky was in the mood for Manky Hanky Panky :-)
I missed the shot where she raised up and flapped her wings. Wonder what color ducklings these two would produce? At this time of year, I assume they won't produce anything.

I do like your new header Mary. It is really strange to see Mallards with these colors.
Looks like a "Horny" mallard instead of a "Manky" mallard to me, Mary.. Sorry--that was crude... I'm sure the ducks have to have fun --just like we humans do, ALL year long.

Wonder if they mate for life? And one does wonder what the children of these two would look like.
Cute shots!!! They are definatly into one another. Mallard mate for life....you will have to try and see if they nest in the imediate area you might have the opportunity to capture the babies that come out of this union :)
