My last wetlands visit was full of interesting things to see.
This Mockingbird was sitting on the gate to greet us when we arrived.
On the slough area, we saw a heron wading on the far side.....not good photos unfortuately, though we both tried. I wasn't sure what it was until I got home. Looks like a "1st summer" Green Heron.
I have never seen one raise its crest like this! Looks like a "crazy bird"!
He was busy stalking the edge of the lake and keeping low.
An Eastern Tailed Blue.
A different blue.....Blue Dasher. Dragonflies are still very plentiful and I saw at least 5 kinds that day.

Hi Mary, this wetland area looks like such a great place to go. That Green Heron was obviously having a bad hair day! Changing leaves and fungi....autumn is definitely in the air!
Now I wonder what was making his hackels rise like that? Hmmm!! I love the colors in the leaves Mary.
Looking at your pictures make me feel like I have taken a wonderful walk in nature.

Great pictures, Mary. The heron looked funny, didn't he???? We have mockers here --probably all over the place--but I've never seen one in my yard... Crazy!!!!
Hope you are having a great Labor Day--watching tennis I'm sure.
Hugs,
Betsy
It's nice that you have a place like this to capture these interesting photos. Enlarged, that bird DOES look a little crazy!
Nice series!
That is a great capture of the mockingbird. And for some reason I love that second photo from the bottom!
Mary: What a fun group of captures. You did a wonderful job on that Green Heron with its excited look.
It looks as if you had a great time in the wetlands. You certainly got some wonderful pictures. I really like the sequence of the green heron.
So nice to have the time to visit! Hate the beginning of the school year - WAY too much to do! Really interferes with my internet visiting time!
Still lots of great photo ops in your area Mary. I am unable to get to any of our trails right now. It's been so wet, and the mosquitos would like to carry a body away.
The goose hunters are around and with all the shooting it scares all the wildlife away..
