Buckeye's and Question Mark's....

Saturday and Sunday at the wetlands, was a butterfly paradise. I decided to divide them up for posting. I've seen the Question Mark butterfly before, but not as well displayed. Saturday it was on the boardwalk leading across the creek......
.....and Sunday it was still hanging around in the leaves next to the boardwalk....

....or on the post! The outside is sure not as fancy as the beautiful inside!

Another butterfly I saw both days was the Buckeye
I like how it looked among these grasses.....
....it seemed to like any of the flowers....white...
......purple....
....and yellow!
I saw a lot of Monarchs that looked brand new...with perfect wings.
I'll get them sorted out for tomorrow.
The butterflies won't be around much longer, so I need to enjoy them while I can.

I hoped to find both of those this summer. I was swimming and saw something that looked like a question mark float by, but never saw one land. He has a really big body! Love your Buckeyes!!

These are some fabulous shots of butterflies Mary.
We have a species like the "Question mark" only we call it a "Comma". The Buckeye is similar in detail to our "Peacock" species although in different colours. Great post.

Mary, these are fantastic captures. I think both are so beautiful. The only buckeyes I have seen this year are ones that are already dead or dying.

That Question Mark is just so striking! You take far better butterfly photos than I do, I really enjoy your work.

Thank you everyone!

Roy: The Question Mark is a type of Comma butterfly. I had a post earlier this year that showed the mark on the side....a comma with a dot. My butterfly book points out a set of dashes on the upper wings that makes this one a Question Mark and not some other Comma.

Dorothy: Good for you finding a Buckeye! I was amazed at how many butterflies were in the meadow last weekend and have a couple more posts of them.

Mary wonderful post of the butterflies and while I was here I checked out the other posts I've missed. The blue Harron shots are fabulous and your dirty little turtle shots rock I toatally laughed when I saw them. I don't know how they can live is such a place but they do!!! Amazing

I only have the Question Mark with wings together, nice to see it with the wings open. Hope someday to see one that way in person. Lovely Buckeye photos, especially the last one.
