Mike dropped me off at the wetlands, while he went to get a haircut. When I got out of the car, he said, "How am I going to find you....the meadow is taller than you are!" Since I'm only 5'2" and he is 6'4" I'm used to this sort of comment, but in this case he was being quite factual.
The path heading around the meadow is now lined with grasses that are taller than I am!
At times I was literally looking right into the tall grasses....which are quite pretty in the sunlight.
I really like this type of grass and how it looked.
These white and pink flowers have taken over the shallow marsh area that used to be covered with small yellow flowers. So many changes right now, but still beautiful.
Don't know what this flower is, but there was just one growing among the other flowers on the marsh. Sure stands out beautifully!
I liked these leaves lining the marsh. So delicate looking.

A few spots of purple asters sprinkled among the many yellow flowers.
These bugs were everywhere I looked today! Our newspaper this morning showed a photo of them and very helpfully identified them for me as Soldier Beetles or also known as Pennsylvania Leatherwings. They are helpful in killing other pests. Nice to know that since I saw so many of them!
Here they are again on the yellow flowers.....
....and on the thistles!

I've never seen or heard of Pennsylvania Leatherwings. We could use a few around here to get rid of our pests.
We just hung a wasp trap to keep the hornets out of the Humming Bird feeder. They were taking over and scaring off butterflies and the birds.

Well Mary what a wonderful post today!! Love the wet lands we have a bog right in the middle of the city called Rithets Bog...such a dynamic area for seeing Nature. I love going there. Your photo's speak for themselves!! Diversity.. :)

We've had some beautiful weather here, but the mosquitoes are horrible. Can't go for many walks. Come on frost!

we just had huge swarms of ladybirds due to a huge increase in other bugs same thing with your Pennsylvania Leatherwings I expect. Nature is great at when there is a bumper crop of one aphid another even things out
