We went to Blue Grass yesterday and I saw a bird I've never seen before!
Is this a Horned Lark???
I took hundreds of photos.....late afternoon....and none are really perfect.
Certainly an interesting bird.....they were hanging around with a group of Killdeer.
I never saw any horns on any of them. Are they young ones?
The neck mark
I can see yellow more on this one at the throat.
Face and neck marks both
Some looked yellowish and some looked more white around the throat area.
Some of the Killdeer they were hanging around with.

Oh, yes....last Sunday was my 2nd Blogiversary and I didn't even realize it went by! Two years down and who knows how many to go! Well, congratulations! Isn't blogging the most fun. There are SOOO many wonderful folks out there. I'm glad we've "met" too. Maybe someday for real, who knows.

Yes, this is definitely a Horned Lark. They used to live in the fields in the neighborhood where I grew up. I'd cut across the fields, near the county golf course, to walk a mile or so to 7-11 and buy a Slurpee. Ended up walking right next to these cool birds many times. Great catch!

CountryDreaming: Oh, good...I was hoping that was what they are because I've never seen one before...a lifer! They were pretty calm and just stayed eating while I kept trying to get a little closer...a little closer.

We both managed to shoot a lark this week Mary but you shot yours better .
they also look the same.

By the way it says in the bird book that the lark is not too shy, the one I saw was I only got 3 picks and it was gone,

Its really good to see a new bird Mary and you did get some good shots as well.
Thanks everyone! I love seeing new birds and this was a lifer for me, but the camera doesn't like that gravel background very well and I didn't feel I got the focus I should have gotten.
I am slowly trying to catch up with my blog buddies...I don't think I have seen this bird pictured here before either. If I have time, I will look in my bird book tomorrow.
