It's SkyWatch Friday! All the bloggers are looking up and taking photos of their sky :-)
These are my sky shots from Wednesday over in Henderson, KY.
A hawk that we scared from its perch soaring against the clouds.
A wire full of swallows
They were busy preening their feathers and totally unconcerned about our presence.
The sky through the very tall grass I had to fight my way through to NOT get a photo of a hawk....oh well, can't win them all!
The sky and clouds in the water of one of the ponds we drove by.
We saw about a dozen of them on the wires. What I want to know is: If they are raised by other birds, in other bird's nests, when do they begin hanging out together and find out they are really Cowbirds and not some other thing?
A couple more of them.
I used an uncropped shot here so you could see the little bird sitting there near the hawk, apparently not the least bit worried about being eaten. I'm guessing this is a young Red Tailed Hawk. That is what I see most of the time.
He has just about reached his tolerance for how close we can come in the car before he takes off. We saw at least 2 different hawks on this same road and disturbed them each twice :-)
Here's hawk #2....another Red Tail.
OK....too close....time to take off!
My last sky shot is in the town of Henderson, as we drove home. Shot through the windshield while sitting at a light :-) It was so funny to see all the pigeons gathering on top of the dome of the Methodist Church.
That's my SkyWatch for today!

Maybe those darn cowbirds heard that saying..."birds of a feather, flock together". !!! Hahahaha!!
Bad bad cowbirds!!
Thanks Mary!
these are great shots. i especially like those of the hawk. i'm still trying to get a good closeup shot of one. i have a few i'm somewhat proud of but still looking to do better. hope all is well.
Oh My... Seeing those birds on the top of the Methodist Church's dome brought back memories of my years working at a Methodist Church in New Orleans. We had a huge steeple--and the pigeons took over. SO MESSY... We did so many things to get rid of them (short of killing them).... It was SO hard... I feel sorry for that church in Henderson.
Great sky pictures --and bird pictures...
We have a gorgeous, COOL morning up here (64 degrees)... First in a LONG time... yeah!!!!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs,
Betsy
Hi Mary ..I really like the tall grass and sky one..very pretty!!
Have a great weekend!!
Eve: Cowbirds are a strange bird, for sure!
Naquillity: I love seeing hawks and as the weather gets cooler I will see a lot of them on the posts along the fields. I went to your blog and enjoyed looking at it, but there was no place to leave comments. I see it is by invitation only.
Betsy: I've never seen them on this dome before, but it doesn't appear to have a lot of bird mess on it. They save that for unsuspecting motorists that drive under the wires they like to sit on :-) It is cooler here, too!
Grammie G.: The grasses were so tall they were way over my head, so I was looking up naturally!
Mary you always come ou with interesting shot and unusual birds! Hardly ever see a hawk, much less get a chance to get a picture of it. Nice Sky Shots today!
Had fun looking at the birds. My favorite is the hawk. Very cool. It's wonderful to observe inhabitants of the skies. :)
This is a great sequence of pictures for Skywatch Friday. You captured a great reflection in the water, and I like your picture of the hawk taking flight.
I love the shot with the grasses!
A fantastic series of skies.I can imagine how many deposits are left behind by those pigeons.Yikes!
Blessings,Ruth
Nice catches, especially the hawk just falling forward to take off. The pigeons on the dome look so irreverent, but I can see that it is a gentle slope for them, and it must be a great view from there!
Nice skywatch shots, Mary, love the birds on the dome.
Dorothy: Watch the wires and posts while driving in the country, and you will find hawks!
Shey: Hawks are always cool to find :-)
George: Thanks...I love taking water reflections when I see them.
Judy: Thanks!
Ruth: I suppose the pigeons are messy, but they are pretty, too :-)
Garden Lily: Thanks...I'd like to be up there on the dome for the view, too.
Carol: Thanks!
