It's been a while since I saw logs full of turtles at the wetlands, but a few were out the last time we were there. I know if I was a turtle, I'd rather be in the cool water than in the hot sun!

This Tiger Swallowtail found a pile of trash very interesting.
Female and immature Wood Ducks....I had to get Bruce to ID those for me! She doesn't blog any more, but takes lots of photos and sends them to people who are interested.

Bet those turtles fight for a spot on one of those logs--don't you think????? Great pictures, Mary... The 'critters' love it out there in the wetlands, don't they???? You always get such great pictures when you are there.

Oh my, I always have loved your turtle photos...I can't remember which got me to reading this blog--the quilting or the turtles. But I did go all the way back through looking for both when I first found it.
Lots and lots of turtles! I guess they enjoy that but if I were a turtle, I have rather live in clear water! You find some interesting things to photograph!!

I just saw the cutest video of one turtle helping another to turn over when it had flipped on its back. Quite amazing.
It is a wonder these survive in all that algae.
Although you found quite a few turtles on the logs, I'll bet most of the turtles agreed with you and tried to stay cool in the water.

Thanks everyone! The algae (duckweed) may look bad, but the turtles and ducks eat it and I imagine it keeps the water underneath cool and shady. Not a bad thing, despite how it looks.
Wow that is alot of green goop! It's a wonder they can manage to move through it.
