What a terrific day to go walking at the wetlands! The temperature was up around 60 and Mike and I went to see what was there. It's been a month since I've been there last!
As you can see, we saw Canada Geese, Mallard ducks, LOTS of turtles and so much more!
The most exciting thing for me was spotting a Kingfisher! Cool! Wish I could have been closer, but was thrilled to get this and I liked all the turtles around him :-)
Lovely bird even in less than sunny conditions.

There were a bunch of Robins in the woods digging for worms. Mike also saw a grey squirrel but we didn't get any photos.
There were piles of turtles everywhere! I know we saw at least two areas where there were 30 or more. Then there were lots of places with just a few here and there. And many slip into the water before you get their photo.

Big pile! How many can you count?

6 in a pile. I know this is a lot of turtles, but I just love to see them on the logs in piles. I don't think there will ever be a lack of turtles at this wetlands!
The Shoveler ducks were swimming among the turtle logs. We saw at least 3 pair of Shovelers.
Mike spotted a muskrat swimming across the creek and I followed him all the way to the edge.
We weren't sure at first what he was, but the tail looks long and skinny.
Mike took this in another part of the creek.....muskrat? We saw evidence of beaver activity also. I took a lot more photos and will show goose shots and some fungi tomorrow.
It is so good to get out and the weather was so great even without the sun shining!

That area is just booming with life! Love it! And all those turtles piled on top of each other are so comical - I'm glad you captured those images~!
Holy smokes! You saw a lot of birds and other critters.
I adore the kingfisher and have been searching for on weekly now for the past couple of weeks. YOu got a really good photo of one.

This brings back memories...some of the first times I visited your blog, I was amazed at all the turtles....still find them amazing. I have loved this series.

Those Kingfishers ... are always flying two trees beyond me so I can NEVER get close enough. Last summer, when we were out kayaking, one bird circled before us around the lake ... leading us on ... a real tease.
This is a great post. Love the turtles all piled together like that. It is so funny to see them all plop back in the water at the same instant. Except when I was just fixing to snap the photo, and I missed it!
Love the Muskrat too.

I've never seen so many turtles Mary. We don't have them over here. Nor Muskrats either so I really enjoyed this post. Those Kingfishers are so skittish, great you got a shot of one!

Wow, you live just far enough South from us that all your wildlife stays active during the winter months. I haven't seen very much around here. It was warm here this morning, and not even a bird in sight.

Those turtles are great. You are right they can jump in the water so quickly before you get their picture ... almost as quickly as a bird can fly away! ;-) Your pictures have me 1. Keen to go on vacation and 2. Keen to buy a better camera. Riel
Riel: Thanks! The turtles are fun to watch. They ballance in such silly positions sometimes. I am thrilled with my new camera from Christmas...better zoom and pixel count, but it is heavy! There are lots of great choices depending on your price range.
