I guess that I'd call this the "normal" or "eyeball to eyeball" view I usually see of the White-breasted Nuthatch when it visits my suet outside the front door.

Sometimes he is upside down....

....always intent on his work....

.....loves to angle out......

.....watching me intently

....sometimes even right side up!

.......or sideways
Later in the day I was lying in the hammock looking up through the branches of the big oak tree in my front yard..........

And there he was again! I've never watched him while lying flat on my back from underneath....

.......strangely enough he doesn't look a lot different due to his ability to go every which way.....

.......but it sure makes the tree look strange and makes
me sort of dizzy! His stabilizing mechanism must be terrific!

Stunning Nuthatch shots Mary, love all the different angles you have captured.
Mike: Thanks! It was fun looking at him upside down for a change.
Nice shots of the Nuthatch. We have the red breasted Nuthatch here.
They are my favorite bird to watch because of all that angling. Unfortunately I don't often see one here at home.
Great nuthatch shots - wonderful to share the view from the hammock!
Nice shots Mary. A very active bird for sure. I am surprised you get such nice pictures of him.
Don't ya just love those Nuthatches ? They are such clowns. Great shots.

Everyone: Thank you! I love the nuthatches and their crazy positions. Such fun to watch them. Seeing one in the tree above me was a plus....as long as it didn't decide to poop on me :-) There was a downy up there, too, but I didn't get a good picture of it.
These pictures are wonderful, Mary. So nice to see the cute little nuthatch. I miss seeing my songbirds. Aside from my loyal woodpeckers, all I see now are starlings, blue jays, and sparrows.
Sandpiper: I'm not seeing a great variety of birds right now either. My downys and these nuthatches seem to be the most faithful right now other than sparrows. I think my dead tree discouraged some of them this year. I haven't even had hummingbirds yet this year! I see 1-2 flit by, but they don't seem to want to stay and eat.
Nice series! Love the shot up through the branches along the trunk!
Kathiesbirds: Thanks! It was an interesting view...I guess I need to spend more time in the hammock :-)
Great Nuthatch images Mary.
Looking at the way those birds move about in the tree and take up that position is enough to give you a headache.
Awesome nuthatch photos! We still have no birdies eating our suet.....we don't know what to do. They used to eat it by the truckload at our old house only 10 miles away.

Roy: Nuthatches are very entertaining. When he eats at the feeder, he tosses stuff all over the place....very selective! And constantly changes position. Looking at him from underneath was really disorienting!
JB: I guess try a different brand of suet....or hang it in a different place.
