This was so interesting and I hope I see it again some day!
I definitely need to get some milkweed, if it attracts weird stuff like this!!!

I've never seen one either, but have read about them. We have lots of Milkweed, so I will be keeping an eye out. Great post.
It is beautiful and your pictures are great!! Milkweed is a favourite food of so many of these interesting creatures and of course butterflies love it too. We get a Clearwing Moth here too but I think it might be a little different from yours. We also have them feeding on our Lilac Trees as well as seeing them on Milkweed. There is a patch of Milweed about five miles away that I visit each day when it comes in to bloom as there is so much to see there!!! Mary, I just never know what I will find next when I visit your blog as you are discovering so many new things each day!! Isn't it all such fun?!
Hello Everyone: I had heard of something along this line, but couldn't remember the name and have never seen one before. It is certainly one of the strangest things I've ever seen. I think the tail looks like a crayfish or lobster. The color looks like a giant bumble bee. The wings look like a moth or butterfly. Weird!

Great shots of the hummingbird moth, I let some milkweed grow around my yard and it attracts monarch butterflies, it's interesting to watch the caterpillars develope into a chrysalis then into a butterfly.

John: When this stand of milkweed goes to seed, I'll collect some and bring it home. I'm surprised that there isn't any growing wild anywhere on my property already.
Mary!! Fantastic shots of the clearwing moth!! Lucky you! We get them and they are a bit different from yours too. They like beebalm and blazing stars as well! You just never know what new discoveries you'll find each day! So glad you had your camera!
How lucky you were to get these photo's Mary. We have a beautiful brown/orange one here and I have been trying for ages to get a decent shot of it, but it never seems to stop moving. LOL With the result I have a whole lot of shots with this brown/orange streak across them. Ha! Ha!

Eve: Thanks! This moth was so strange that I am glad that I got at least 4 pictures of it before it disappeared. I think everytime I go to the wetlands, I see another new creature of some sort.
Joan: I hope you get a good shot of yours eventually so I can see the type you have. They are very strange moths! I'm glad it happended to be there that day and posed at least briefly.
