......however when they stop right in front of you, it would be silly not to take a picture!
What is it?
I've tried to find it on the net. No luck so far. You would think that yellow head would make it easy to find. If anyone knows a good internet site for identifying both dragonflies an damselflies with good pictures, please tell me the address!

The best site for all your insects is bugguide.net. They have thousands of photographs and if you do not find it, you can send it to them as a query although it might take a few days for them to get back to you on it.
The more one tries to find out what a bug is, the more one wallows in all the possibilities of what it could be! The number of bugs etc out there and all their variations is mind boggling! If you've looked at Bugguide's site by now ... you've probably already got that feeling!

Hi Mary! I think Tom is right on the type of damselfly AND bugguide.net is my favorite place to go for buggy ID's!
I told you once you saw one of these little guys you would be hooked!
I sure can't help you out with that, but it surely is pretty with it's bit of yellow.

I was going to suggest an Orange Bluet, but I see that has already been suggested. There is also the male Vesper Bluet which is yellow, but perhaps not in your area. Also a female Blue-fronted Dancer is yellow, but then again perhaps not in your area. Neat find!
Ann: Thanks for the other suggestions! I will check them all out. I think damselflies are going to prove to be much harder to identify then dragons!

JB: I don't know damselflies either, and don't plan to try very hard to learn about them. I can only learn so many bugs.
