Daylilies are very popular in this area! Some people own many varieties and colors and types.
This is the ordinary kind that grow "wild" along the roadside. I just love seeing them everywhere I drive!
This is a drive I take all the time and as you can see there are huge stretches of these lilies....unless the roadside mowing crew gets to them!

.....along fences and in small clumps in yards.I really like them better then some of the cultivated ones that are popular. They seem more "natural". Each flower only lasts one day, but they have many buds.
I have a double-petaled version of this one that will bloom soon.
I used to have some dark reddish ones, and a couple types of yellow ones, but don't see too many buds so far. One of the yellow types blooms in the spring and is gone already. I need to thin all of them. Then there are the pink "surprise lilies".....but not yet :-) I always forget where they are and when they will bloom, since the green leaves are long gone.

Here in Connecticut they're called ditch lilies. Appropriate as they grow well in ditches and just about anywhere else! I'm with you, Mary, I like them as well or better than the cultivated ones, too.

Annie: Ditch lily seems like an appropriate title! You do see them in all the ditches and everywhere else. I wish they bloomed all summer. They sure beautify the sides of the roads.
So far this year my day lilies have put out only leaves ... no flowers. I remain hopeful.
Oh I have seen many of these around here. I think they are lovely!

It is beautiful to see so many of the orange lilies in your area. We have them here too, but... you guessed it, ours are not yet in bloom. I love them though and they will be all over our gardens when they open for we have translplanted them in most all of our flower beds.
Glad you liked my red dragonflies, hope I can see a yellow faced one like you did someday.

Ann: I think the orange lilies are pretty universal and everyone likes to transplant them :-) Blogging makes it easy to extend the season of everything, as we look at each other's blogs. It seems strange to me to be seeing peonies in other blogs, when mine are long gone! I need to go out and "steal" a few more orange lilies from the highway. A lot of mine got choked out by the little purple flag irises, which I wish I had never planted. I'm going to ruthless dig up a bunch of those and get rid of them.
Those are lovely Mary. They do come in such wonderful colors now days.
Oh yes Daylillies. We have many many of the orange ones around here, BUT they will wait till July 4th to bloom. Really, it happens every year. In years past when my Mom was alive we always picked her a bouquet on July 4th.
