There isn't a lot of color at my feeders right now. This little sparrow is determined to share the suet whether the woodpecker likes it or not.

I've been trying to decide if one of my young woodpeckers might be a Hairy rather then a Downy. I think the beak of the one below looks a little longer and stronger then the one above. If I have trouble telling the parents, the young are even harder!

This young cardinal showed up yesterday and isn't as skitterish as the parents. It sat there on the front step eating and posing for me. It's just beginning to get red on it's body and beak.

This trio were checking out the "Driveway Diner" offerings......

.....some get along better than others

I thought this Hairy woodpecker looked like he had antlers in this picture :-)

This sparrow already had a mouthful of something.....worm?.....

.....but was determined to try to add some suet to its already full beak!
(Two more days of Bible School....I'm pooped! I've got a "summer cold" that is really making me feel lousy right now, so I may not post anything tomorrow)

Oh I do hope you feel better soon! Love the shot of the woodpecker that has "antlers" How cute!!
Hi Mary! You can tell the downy from the hairy not only from the beak but on the white tail feathers! The downy has the black spots and the hairy's are just white!!
I love the antler picture too!!! So funny!
I hope you feel better soon...like today!!!
Ok, my mom wants to know, what brand of suet do you feed your birds? We still have no takers! WE don't understand. I like that young cardinal with the red spot on his chest.

Oh my gosh! The wp with antlers is too funny!
Thanks everyone!
JB: Right now I'm using C&S Products Orange Dough. They all seem to like it.
Eve: I did know that about the spots, but wasn't sure if it applied to the young birds or not.
What a greedy little sparrow. LOL!! I do hope that you are feeling better by now. There is nothing worse than getting a cold in the summer.
HAHAHAH
"driveway dinner"....hadn't heard that one before.
Enjoyed the photos!

p.s. Hope you feel better and get rid of that cold.
I love the one of the young cardinal sitting on the edge of the bowl--he looks like he is talking to you.
Kind of like you about the top two woodpeckers...I think their beaks look slightly different but don't think I would have noticed had you not pointed it out.
Beautiful pictures, Mary. Cute cardinal. Funny how it has that little red spot. Great pictures of the moth, too.
Thanks everyone. I'm too tired and busy coughing to comment individually, but appreciate your comments!
