At the house where I scared the bunnies, they have a huge stand of bamboo.....very invasive...growing and Susan took me walking through it. She was kicking over the new growths and I picked up 3 and brought them home. It is really interesting to see inside of one......all the growth is there and it just telescopes up very quickly to its full height.
Back home I've been trying to hang some feeders in new places other then my dead dogwood and see what sort of pictures I can get. This female cardinal looked pretty posing against the Cherry tree blossoms.
Having to shoot towards the house from outside does not get me good close-up shots, but this cardinal and finch were enjoying the feeder together among the pink blossoms.
The Catbird showed up and didn't stay long. He tried to hang from the suet feeder like a woodpecker which was pretty funny, because he kept slipping off. I hope to get better pictures now that he is back for the summer.
The white-breasted nuthatch always makes such a production of picking a seed at this feeder. He sweeps his bill back and forth throwing stuff out and leans way down to peer inside like that will help him find the very best seed possible.
I was surprised to have 2 Pine Siskins hanging upside down on the Goldfinch feeder. I thought that Goldfinches were the only ones that did that!
I caught brief glimpses of my first hummingbird and a thrasher, so I hope to have pictures soon! I got out one of the hummingbird feeders immediately and put it where it was last year.

Mary you have the greatest birds visiting your feeders! They are all lovely but my favourite from your group today is the Catbird! I could not believe its 'meowing' when I first heard one and I find that so fascinating. One year we had a pair nest in our Wild Rose Bush and it was so much fun to see and hear them in our backyard during that time. One would perch on the fence every day and 'meow' while we sat on our swing and enjoyed watching it.
Mary, such wonderful pictures. I love the cardinal and finches in the flowers. They are gorgeous! Interesting to read about the bamboo,too. I know it can get pretty dense and out of control.
Me and My Camera: I do get a good variety at any time of year. So far they don't seem to mind the dead dogwood tree as their perch as long as I keep putting out food :-) I like the catbird, too and did not know it "meowed" until you mentioned it once. I will have to listen for it. I wonder if it confuses my cats when they hear it??
Sandpiper: The cardinals seem to really like the cherry tree, so it is easy to get pictures of them there. I just hung a couple of feeders there that I can photograph from the house...I hope.
What nice birds you have at your feeder. We finally saw a male cardinal at ours last night and it was almost completely dark already. I heard bamboo is very invasive....my mom's friend had some and she could not get rid of it!

Thanks JB and Mike! It is very cool right now, so I may have to wait a bit longer on the hummingbird. The one I saw zipped in and back out so fast I couldn't even get the camera up. They will return...that's the good part!
