Plenty of squirrel photos this week. The snow we had brought several of them up to the deck every day. We seem to have about 3 that are living around back and another 3 out front that visit regularly.
I like to watch them eat. Don't know why....I just do.
He seems to have noticed me sticking the camera through the curtains :-)
When the sunlight hits their tails, they really glow.
When it is cold and windy that tail gets brought up over the back.
I think if it was me, I would wrap it around my feet.
I like their big eyes and whiskers....just like a cat....whiskers around the nose and eyes.
When a squirrel eats it always has its paws up by its mouth....which gives the false impression that it picks up its food that way. But it doesn't. It uses its mouth to pick up the food....I guess the paws are there to help control it and maneuver it around.
They always look to me like they are praying.
And why when they go on alert do they raise one paw up to their chest???

....and again! Is that their "ready to run" position?

They really are the cutest., especially with their fur or tails against the sun. I bet they lift one paw to their heart out of sheer fright, a moment in time of indecision.

Arija: I like your idea of why they raise the paw up. My other thought is it is just still there from when they were eating and the other paw goes down to get ready to run.

Ruth: Their orange color is one of my favorite things. Some are always darker....maybe during mating time and have fluffier tails.
