We went back to Henderson last Wednesday to try the new lens on the Snow Geese and ducks. I borrowed a monopod to help steady the camera. It was very cold and I'm not sure I was as steady as needed. I feel the results are very mixed.
These ducks were at a great distance. The lens helped, but the photo isn't sharp enough for me to identify what kind of ducks they are. Mostly Mallards, but a few others.
The geese were closer to the road than usual, but the lens definitely brought them in even closer. I can see more detail in these shots, but again I feel the focus is not sharp. I'm sure it is the photographer and not the lens.....I just don't have this figured out yet. I liked this shot for the reflections and the group of dark juveniles in the back left.
Mostly white Snow Geese with a few dark ones.

The mix. It was bitter cold and many of them were hunkered down and not many were flying about.
The group of swans was still in the middle of the big flooded area. I can tell this is a closer shot, but not crisp in focus.
I did better on inanimate objects! This cypress tree offered an interesting subject to practice on.
I always like how the cypress trees look no matter what season.

Great pictures of the geese, Mary... Love that White-fronted Goose there with all of the Snowy Geese....
The Cypress tree pictures are great also.
We have LOTS of snow up here this morning. Glad we don't have to get out!!!! It's pretty and the birds are feasting at the feeders and bath.

A new lens takes a bit of getting use to. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
I know it's fun getting to try out your new lens on the Geese! I like those Cypress trees, too. It may be a little too cold out to really enjoy a photo session. I just want to curl too and catch a wee nap;)
It must be great to see Snow Geese Mary.
Interesting pictures.I too like the trees in the water.Try to find out why the images are not sharp.I had one lens that did that.I thought too it was me,but found out it was the fault of the lens.

Just ignore that...very good photos..I am just amazed at all those geese together, and those Cypress trees I like this look of them!!
Betsy: I like seeing the different geese so this is always a nice time while they are here. I think that snowstorm that hit you missed us, but we have some more coming.
Gary: Yes....I'm not very handy with anything beyond "point and shoot". But it will come in handy for some places that I go regularly.
Dorothy: When it is so cold and windy, I really can't steady the camera enough.
Roy: Yes, they are special.
Ruth: I doubt it is the lens...just me :-) We'll see.
Grammie G: LOL....you are sure in a funny mood. Must be that cold weather up north getting to you. I'm always amazed by the geese, too. It's a once a year treat.
I think you've done quite well. I'm finding that the learning curve for moving objects is greater for a telephoto lens than a regular lens.
