This is the Cedar River and there is a bike/hiking trail along stretches of it that I intend to go back to before we leave to try to see birds. This was the view from the backyard of this home....beautiful place! I was more interested in the river than the cookout.
I liked this rock in the water.
Spotted a couple of deer heading back into the woods downstream.
This Flicker is at my sister's and was busy drilling holes in the yard looking for bugs. I think it is the Red-Shafted version of the Northern Flicker. Either a female or young.
It was so intent on the yard, that it didn't care in the least about me watching it.
A young Robin joined it. I didn't realize this was a robin at first...looked odd to me (the cheek patch). All the familiar birds out here seem a little bit different than their Eastern cousins back where I live. Basically the birds I have seen so far are ones I see at home.

Great trip posts Mary! I love the flowers and wares below. It's fun to see the red-shafted flicker, that we don't get to see here in the east! Great fun trip!

Oh Maqry, I wish you could bring me that rock...wouldn't you have fun getting it on the plane? Your other photos are wonderful.

I love Northern Flickers --but you are right. Those look different from the ones we have here.

I didn't take a photo of the log home. I feel funny about doing that with someone else's home that I didn't even really know. I had some other photos, but I'm having so much trouble posting anything, but I skipped most of the stuff. So far the weather is not so good...rainy. Not going to be the best day to get out on the water in a boat probably, but you take what you can get.

Your pictures of your flickers are wonderful..and I wouldn't sweat the small stuff about the order of the pictures....I don't think in my mind it truly matters as long as you love what your posting and I truly believe that you do!! That's why I come here.

What a lovely place to visit, your photos are great.
A walk along that creek looks very interesting.I can't help but notice that the grass is very brown.

Mary, I like the rock in the river and yes, that is a red-shafted flicker. I get red-shafted and gilded flickers here where I live. The gilded are more in the desert and the red-shafted are along creeks with large trees. Sometimes their habitat overlaps. I hope you are having fun!
Aside from computer frustrations, sounds like you're having a lovely time. (I HATE having internet troubles, btw.)
I get so frustrated with incompetant internet too.
I'd like to see the log house. What a great setting with the river out back, but not too close of course. Sounds like you're having a good time.

Looks like it was another interesting day. Would love to see the river in person. I imagine it must be quite nice to have a cabin there, as well as the bike and hiking trail. A never ending photo-op! :D
