Birds at the Zoo......

No squirrel today, so I will go back to my zoo report. We drove to Tacoma to go to the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium.....very nice place. It is part of a 5 mile loop that besides leading to the zoo, leads to parks, a rose garden, a rhododendron garden, Fort Nisqually, a logging museum and logging train ride, and a beach. Really nice area with a lot for families to do.I promised the Tacoma view of Mt. Rainier....less snow in view and you can see the volcano crater lip to the right. Hard to believe this is actually a volcano. I'm thankful it is snowcovered and not spewing lava!

There are many birds and animals that I will never see in the wild, so I like zoos. Especially ones that are as nice and modern as this one. Here are a few of the birds I saw while there.
I liked this little Western Screech Owl. So small. It is wounded in some way that makes it impossible to live in the wild.

Seem to very content with its handler. Such pretty feathers it has.

Magellanic Penguins.....
Looks ready to slide down a hill into the water.

Taking a bow

Puffins.....I'll probably never see them in the wild.

Tried to catch one as he took the plunge from the top.
Mike got a photo that shows how it looks like it is "flying" underwater.
They look so funny when they walk down this narrow ledge. The one at the right was headed up, but came to the other one and had to turn around and go back.

A little pool of ducks.

Wood Duck

They have an exhibit called Budgie Buddies where you can get a stick with food...shown below...and hold and feed a Budgie. I liked all the different colors.

All the kids were really loving it.

A couple different green ones.

If there are no squirrels, I am not going to look further!! I will sit here and just wait for a picture of one. If my boss asks tomorrow why I am not at work, I will tell him I am on strike!! So there!!

LOL!! Dont worry, I likesd your birds and will forgive you this time. :)

Thos puffins really ar strange looking birds. I have never seen on in the wild either. I LOVE budgies and used to breed them. Each one had a personality of its own, just like people.

That is the cutest little owl!! Love it!!

I'm the opposite of Joan... I say: "Thank God: NO Squirrels"... ha ha (Just kidding)... However, I do love this post. Those little colorful birds are just so precious. And I love the screech owl and the puffins...

GREAT post. Thanks!
Hugs,
Betsy

Looks like a great zoo Mary. I love that Owl and....well all of the birds! (-: The budgie buddies is a great idea. Hopefully it will inspire some kids to get into nature instead of computer games!

Where is Star today? Must be he is loafing someplace out of the rain.LOL
I love zoos and like you probably won't ever see most of them in the wild.
Great presentation Mary.

I had a budgie for a pet once ... taught it to talk even. It could say quite a few words and everyone said it sounded just like me.

This looks like a wonderful zoo -- thanks for taking us along. Thanks, too, for the view of Mt. Rainier. I never think of it as being a volcano either.
