I wish the focus was better, but this little finch decided to launch himself at the feeder just as a snapped his picture! I thought it was cute anyway and it reminded me of the way I feel. I'm ready to dive head first into spring and start clearing away the remains of winter....starting with the tree limbs that came down during the ice storms! And raking away the bird seed mess from my flower garden.
The junco is helping with cleaning out the old seed mess among the nice green shoots starting to come up. Great job......keep at it! Even without flowers there are pretty things under all that mess!
I see yellow beginning to peep through on the goldfinches! Always amazing to know that in a month or so they will be bright yellow!
I think this male House Finch was all puffed up hoping to attract some cute little girl finch for a mate. He sat there all fluffed out and looking around while the females were feeding nearby.

I'm afraid if I tried to dive head first into spring I might find myself stuck in a snow bank; seriously tho, there are more signs of its emerergence each day and I am so eager for this coming season of renewal. A wonderful little finch photo; we have not had any of that species at our feeders all winter long.
Is the tea ready? ;-) So nice to see the finches getting their color again. I like the one that is taking off, too. Those are pretty stones. Did you paint them?
I feel like you do. I want to get out there and start cleaning up the garden. I noticed this morning that the squirrels are taking the nesting material out of the tree hole outside my window. It looks like they're preparing a new nest. I didn't know that they did spring cleaning, too.

Me and My Camera: That really made me laugh about diving into the snowbank! What an image :-) Keep saying to yourself: spring always comes, spring always comes..... I had a forward email sent to me today with pictures of huge towers of snow somewhere in NY state. I certainly can't complain when I look at things like that! But I'm still glad it is over.
Sandpiper: I bought the stones several years ago at a garden center and that is stained glass set in concrete. I thought they were amazing and wish I had more. They seem to hold up year after year. I have one other one that has a colorful tree frog on it. I'm sure it will end up in a photo some time. Would you send your squirrels over to spring clean for me?? I hate cleaning...inside or out.
Oh, I, too have just craving Spring! It's something how the goldfinches develop their bold yellow feathers little by little. The house finch shot it my favorite!
Aunt B: Thanks! My birds have gotten sort of slack at the feeders with the temperatures getting better, but the assorted finches always show up regularly. I like watching the goldfinches turn color, even though they aren't very attaractive while they are turning. Makes you wonder why they lose that beautiful yellow in the winter??
